Description

I'm now big expert in DACs as I really tried many!

Lavry Black, Blue and Gold
Berkeley Audio Designs Alpha DAC
Emmlabs DAC2 and TSD1
dCS Scarlatti
AA Tube DAC II
Linn Klimax DS
MSB Diamond DAC
GTE Audio Trinity DAC
Latest Trinity DAC

I fall in love with horns and decided to deign my own speaker system!
So, here is my DIY story http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/multi-way/282736-goto-6-way-timealigned-horn-system-10.html

And with this incredibly high sensitivity speakers I've ended up using low power SET amps.
Two 1.5Watt and one 18Watt for entire system!

Hi , would you please post pictures of your system , it adds clout and credibility
please don't tell us you don't have a camera , as you will definetly look suspicious
please don't take this post as me doubting your ownership of the listed gear , but rather a proof of your extreme pursuit of audio nirvana ,after all if we where in a mega yacht forum and claimed owning a bunch of lurssen , pershings , oceanco etc etc I will have to man up and show evidence , if not just to make everyone greener in envy

Lavry Gold become my favorite DAC!
Better than:
dCS Scarlatti DAC
MSB Dimond DAC
Linn Klimax DS
BADA DAC
AA Tube DAC

IMHO even the normal Argento Flow is better than the previous top of the line Argento Master Reference.

Now I use SMREE with DACs.
This cable is the best! Best resolution and bass control.
FMR has may be even better bass control, but less body in bass.
Odin is also very good, may be not as resolving as SMREE in upper mids, but in highs is incredible.
Jorma is much less resolving than Argento and Odin, but very musical with perfectly right timbres.
KS Emotion and Elation are a bit muddy in compare with the rest.
Stealth is very dynamic, but was too bright in my system.
Valhalla is good balanced cable, but just can't reach Odins resolution.

hi Murataltuev, thk you for sharing. am just wondering which of these power cords you ended up getting for yr Berkeley Alpha, & dCS Scarlatti DACs?

I tried this power cords:
KubalaSosna Emotion and Elation
Stealth Dream
Nordost Valhalla
Jorma Prime
and now have this ones:
Nordost Odin
Argento FMR and SMREE
SMREE works very good on DAC
FMR on power amp
I suggest to try Argento Flow also.

murataltuev

hi Murataltuev, what power cords hv you tried on the Berkeley Alpha & which is your favorite?

Geopolitis, thank you very much for your recommendations.
I'll definately get them for audition in my system!

murataltuev

Murataltuev,

just wait until you try the Argento FMR speaker cables and interconnect. The FRM power cables are nothing compared to the improvement the other cables bring in a system. I know because I am using a full set of Argento Flow speaker cables, interconnect and power cables.

2 more brilliant power cords Nordost Odin!
Together with Argento FMR they do something!
Odin is trully magic!
They affect to the timbres making them absolutely truthfull.
Never instruments was so alive in my system!
Happy me:)

Kyyuan,
Berkeley is better in midrange.
Female voice and piano sounds just right with Berkeley.
That's why I decided to change.

System edited: Elations arrived! This is best cables I have ever heard!

murataltuev

Murataltuev...nice updates to your system. Out of curiosity, how would you compare the Berkeley Alpha DAC to your old EMM Labs DAC2? Thanks.

kyyuan

All I can say is that these 3 lines of cables [Stealth Dream, Nordost Odin, Jorma Prime] are simply the best cables out there!

So enjoy testing and listening!

Hi Kops,
I have Tidal Preos between dCS and Gryphon and can't remove it!
It really adds life to the music!
Volume control of dCS is great, so I'm bypassing it in Tidal, but Tidal must be there!
As for the Stealth, as you know I have 3 cables: wall, preamp and digital.
Digital cable added so much dynamic to Scarlatti! Great cable!
Today I heard Nordost Odin and this is incredible power cable.
I also want to try Jorma Prime and than finally decide!

murataltuev

Murat congrats on your new Stealth Dream cables, please tell us more about.

Are you using Preos basically for the phono stage?
I think that Scarlatti directly to amplifiers is an ultra option too.

Hi Cappuccino!
I compared Tidal with Mirage and Tidal was more transparent, clear and analog like!
After what I heard from Tidal, I've stoped my search, so I didn't compare Tidal with MBL and Burmester.
I'm listening 99% orchestras and piano concertos.
Also Tidal has best phono section in the world, I believe.
I compared it with Aesthetix IO Eclipse and Nagra PL-L.
Murat.

murataltuev

Murataltuev,
very nice system. I can see from other posts that you also considered MBL or Burmester preamp. What made you choose the Tidal? And did you also compare it to Gryphon Mirage? What were your findings and also your priorities in this process? What kind of music do you mostly listen to?

System edited: I decided to keep Berkeley for high resolution playback. I feel it is more neutral. Scarlatti is a bit warm. But for redbook CD Scarlatti is a clear winner!

I never heard any dCS before, so can't really say.
As for pictures, I'm going to add them this days!

murataltuev

This thread needs PICTURES!

Congrats on assembling a bravura system.

Contemplating the Scarlatti DAC, intrigued as to how much it improves on the prior generation Delius.

Hi Mike,

This is really true! I'm "rediscovering my music"!
Fantastic device!

murataltuev

Thats great news Murat!

Probably the best digital front end available at any price. I have heard it in many different systems, which all sounded amazing, but never at a system I am really familiar with!!

You must be "rediscovering your music" as they say...;)

Enjoy my friend!

Mike

System edited: I think this last dramatic change in my system. Because now impossible to imagine what can be better. With Scarlatti my system become pure live music. First time I heard real piano and violins in my room. I feel that I've finished with electronic. I need to finally decide about cables and than think about best speakers ever made!
