podeschi-- in some regards you did win the lottery- congratulations! a major leap forward, by getting these 450s. and yes, what preamp will you be using? the sig.mk2?

ozy

"...eddie-- the first pair was placed in the corners behind the speakers.i experimented with the angle of the these panels for a better disbursment.
the second pair were placed behind the seating position in the corners as well.same procedure ensued.
the last pair was placed at the point of first reflection. my jury is still out on whether that's the best spot for it, though.....tbc...... pics will be posted soon."

Thanks Ozy! I'll keep an eye out for the pictures!

Hi Podeschi,

Would appreciate any impressions you have of GAT v VAC. Is 450S an integrated for a stereo amp only. If the latter, what Preamp will you be using? Thanks! Congrats!

lloydelee21

Good news! I didn't win the lottery, but I did just place an order for the VAC 450S. I sold a GAT preamp, and my VAC 300.1a. I am officially in the queue. Can't wait!

Ozy, can you tell us where the new panels were placed in the room?

Owner
system edited---- added 4 more yter flexum panels last night.noticed an immediate improvements in clarity and vividness. overall ambiance is better ,with a pin-point soundstage placement.

ozy

Owner
thanks a bunch , boeing!
the main differences between the r.m mk.2 and d.c is a noticeable reduction in noise floor.
is it worth the extra $$$$? that's a tough question to answer, as it is the prevasive notion in high end audio.....

ozy

Great Set-Up Ozy ! How would you compare the Siltech Ruby Mountain 2 to the Siltech Ruby Double Crown , does the price increase warrant the performance leap. Thanks in advance.

boeing

Owner
dev-- yes, one tube in each amp in the "vo-1" position.
prestine circa 1940s.
swapping the preamp golden dragons is on to-do-list . some also swapped to the amperex from the 70s to a good effect.

ozy

Ozy,

when referring to the tubes in the amps you rolled do you mean the VO1 tube position only. 1 tube in each amp?

What year are the Sylvanias, allot of these tubes are known for being microphonic.

Why the decision to try these specific tubes

The only tubes I have changed as mentioned are in my pre-amp so you should try this, most defiantly changes and other owners are doing the same saying "Much better, with more air, better imaging, deeper bass, etc., etc."

Swap out the Golden Dragon 6Dj8's in the preamp with Siemens 7308's NOS from the mid-1970's or 60's Seimens Cca

Owner
dev--
too bad about your dedicated room.
i "rolled' the 2 v1 6sn7 tubes in the amps to sylvanias vt-231s and it made a world of difference. more drive and just overall a nice jump in performance.
i never beleived in power conditioners for amps. kinda negates the amp design and purpose. i go straight to the 20 amp dedcated outlet.
cords ,like cables are just flavors. to each his own.

ozy

Awe I see I do allot more listening than you do, I have almost double the hours, no tube rolling in the amps. I have owned my pre-amp for much longer than my amps so I am trying different tubes both in the line and phono stage. No conclusions as of yet, will put back the original ones in a while.

The room I was looking to build, put on hold due to not being satisfied with size etc. and several concerns, still really enjoy my current environment so I'll leave it for now.

Don't think of other amps and/or pre-amps or speakers, just enjoying :-)

I'm sure your new Accusphase pces are sounding nice, sure look sharp! My red book when I listen which really isn't all that much I've settled for a single player unit, AMR 77.1

I recently found out these amps in my place prefer to be plugged directly into the wall and not into the RM20 units, was very interesting because other amps like Boulder 2050's, MBL 9011's - 9008's, Karan 1200's and Bryston 28's all worked and some even sonically sounding better, go figure.

That's why it's important to try your self with any pressure.

I'm currently using Stealth Audio Dream PC's but will compare to the stock ones sent to see as suggested by Kevin.

Owner
zephyr24069-- you are most welcome, anytime!

ozy

Owner
azjake-- from your previous response, it sounded as if you were trying to replace your entire system.

the accuphase gear should be on your list, nonetheless.

i believe the yter flexum retails for $3000 each.
axiss audio is indeed the usa distributor.

yes, a fundumental change in approach.i'm getting a much ,much more enojyable and pallable sound now.

ozy

Ozy...thanks for the response and advice!

zephyr24069

Owner
dev--from a private individual in canada.they are imported to the usa by axiss audio.

i now have about ~400 hours on my vacs.no ,not really- just have been using the siltech cords from day one.

how is your room coming along? any pics?how are YOUR vac coming along??(hours, tube rolling, etc)

ozy

Owner
zephyr24069-- thank you. pretty much trial and error, and listening to what works. i found that the corners are the most critical and should be addressed first to reduce the bass bulid up.then absorbtion behind the speakers(some feel that diffusion works better- just experiment). then points of first and second reflections, and lastly the ceiling.

ozy

No, but i am looking to change my digital front end from the Esoteric...After 1.5 yrs with it i need a more natural and musical presentation, even if it means giving up the ultimate in detail!

I do not have many sacd's, instead about 550 cd's and 200 mfsl gold cd's.and of course my vinyl.

I too would like to know the cost of the Flexum diffusors/absorbers if you don't mind...

I have 8 "clouds" as you are aware and 4 Transparent diffusors but would love to use these at the forward l&r of my speakers placement. They seem beautiful. I believe the company that handles YTER is Axiss International in CA.

Your system has really changed!!! SS to Tubes, New digital and new speakers but wonderfully synergistic it seems, Congratulations...

Jake

azjake

Hi Ozy,

YTER Flexum acoustical panels

You mentioned you got them from montreal, who is the company? How much?

What are their actual measurements

How many hours do you now have on your amps.

Have you done any comparisons in relation to using the stock power cord and what you are currently using.

Thanks

dev

Your room and system are stunning. How did you arrive at the combination of diffusers/other sound treatments, placement, etc....in the room?

zephyr24069

Owner
charles1dad-- your assesment of the esoteric sound mirrors mine. it was time for a change. accuphase's 40th anniver. products seem to push the envelope quite further than their standard gear. i had the accuphase dp-75 years ago, and it was nice but not dynamic or revealing in a meaningful way.
the new 900-901 combo is just incredible to listen to, and ,the , system is now coming to its own.

ozy

Owner
zermatt--- thanks alot! the accuphase was way ahead of the other digital that i tried/listened to in the last few months. it just sounds right and beautiful, with no digital glare or artifacts.

yes, i use the G7 siltech cables thruout the system, including biwire speaker cables ,a/c cords and i/cs.

ozy

Your system is very impressive. I do check your page to see what that latest improvements are. Based on your latest updates, I have been doing some research on new digital systems and the new Accuphase components look very interesting. May I ask what drove you to the Accuphase, do you try any others in your system. Are Siltech cables on the AC and DAC to the preamp.

Cheers!

zermatt

Ozy,
Your move to the Accuphase makes perfect sense. There will be a more natural-holistic (realism)character with your music reproduction. Esoteric as always struck me as clinical and a bit sterile in presentation. Your system must sound simply fabulous with this change.
