After using Krell Amps, Mark Levinson Amps, B&W Matrix 800 Loudspeakers, Avalon Eidolon Diamonds and several others i fell in love with the Wilson Sound when i heard Wilson Grand Slamm's with Audio Research Amps at my dealer.
I could not believe what i was hearing the sound actually sounded real. I purchased the Grand Slamm's on the spot but have since upgraded to Alexandria's.
Now upgraded to Audio Note Dac 5 Signature.
2012 upgraded to Gryphon Mephisto Pure Class A Mono's weighing 240lbs each and Audio Research Reference Anniversary Pre-Amp.
Now and then I view a system that makes me wonder how can one assemble such a super system. You know your system is good when you can hear old music anew again. Enjoyed reading the comments and seeing the picks.
Played a song tonight I have been playing for nearly 35 years and for the first time ever I could hear the artist who sings whilst playing piano moving his feet on the piano pedals as the song starts. It has to be the Gryphon Class A resolving power!! Regards Bigpond
I could just about tell how thick the Drumsticks were tonight when listening to Paul Simon on the fast moving and very underrated song "Late in the Evening" due to ARC, Wilson & Gryphon Mephisto!!!
Room dimensions are approx 8m x 6.9 x 2.4. Really a bit smaller as a bit of an alcove to the right of the listening chair. Hoping some targetted room treatments and a little eq will improve things
Hi Downunder, You are so right about been easy to spend too much money but when you hear good music on a good system it is very hard to beat in life!! What are the actual dimensions of your room? Do you still use your Linn Sondek much? Kind Regards Bigpond
Great to see you on the forums. Yes, 108kg...EACH! I have spoken to a few folks about this amp...all the transparency of the Colosseum (probably more frankly)...but with an intense sweetness that the Antileon had (and ...but unfortunately that also came with a slight darkness/heaviness flavor.
How is your system? I hear you on room variations and your ceiling height which you have mentioned before. The good thing is the Maxx's give you some flexibility on that.
Still considering my digital very carefully, on my end.
Good to see another Aussie spending all his $$ on hifi and music. I think we have the same drug dealer In Sydney :-) Btw, I saw your ref 600's in the shop last week. Did not realize it was you who Joe upsized to the magnificent Mephisto's. Those things are HUGE.
One thing I am really jealous of is ( besides the speakers and amps) is your room. You have a nice high roof. Mine is not really tall enough. Had a guy come over today for a complete set of measures. His comments were my room is somewhat problematic with some complex behaviors.
Hi Audioblazer, At over 230lbs for each amplifier it is hard to experiment but I believe the modified Silent Running Stand I am using is better than Maple Wood with my Wooden floorboards. Kind Regards Bigpond
If you do buy the mighty Mephisto...congrats!!! I used to own Antileon and now own Colosseum (both second hand). I had the Antileon on my equipment rack...4" of birch ply that was on top of 1" of slate directly onto floor. The Colosseum wont fit since it's vertically oriented as you likely know...so just on the wood floor and have not experimented.
Hi Bernard , I m probably buying gryphon mesphito stereo amp & interested to know whether putting it on a amp stand make any difference. May I know what is your gryphon sitting on ? What difference do u hear . My friend tried it on a finite element cerabase sitting on a hard local woods chengal ( won't rot even if expose to the weather rain or shine for years ) and didn't like it
