After using Krell Amps, Mark Levinson Amps, B&W Matrix 800 Loudspeakers, Avalon Eidolon Diamonds and several others i fell in love with the Wilson Sound when i heard Wilson Grand Slamm's with Audio Research Amps at my dealer.
I could not believe what i was hearing the sound actually sounded real. I purchased the Grand Slamm's on the spot but have since upgraded to Alexandria's.
Now upgraded to Audio Note Dac 5 Signature.
2012 upgraded to Gryphon Mephisto Pure Class A Mono's weighing 240lbs each and Audio Research Reference Anniversary Pre-Amp.
If I owned solid state it would be at the top of my short list. I have not heard the Pendragon but would wager in advance it ranks among the finest speakers available.
Roxy54 - i [believe] Bigpond is getting the Gryphon Audio Pendragon flagship speaker system which is 4 towers...2 bass towers (cones) and 2 6-foot ribbon towers.
WOW-WOW-WOW!!! BigPOND...that is truly BIG news!!! Congrats! I am sure you have read the review on Mono and Stereo recently from Dato Han. I actually emailed him about his new Pendragons recently.
When are they arriving? Congrats!!! Very, very, VERY excited for you!
Yes Charles, I noticed that, but I thought maybe it was an option that I didn't know about, or a stacked pair or something. I was puzzled for sure. What brand is this? Thanks for the heads-up, John
Bigpond, Very interesting! I have considered the Pendragons myself, but I am curious about why the drastic change in both price range and type of speaker. The rest of your system is great. Do you plan to use the same incredible amps?
Hi Statman & Roxy 54, Yes the Pendragon is coming! Lloydelee21 has been banging on about active Bass for years and I have given in. I just have to try the 4 towers, active bass with a peak of 4000 watts, no crossover point in the crucial main listening range etc....... Very nervous leaving the Wilson sound I love so much but should be worth it. Thanks Statman for the kind words should be delivered within 2 months.
I can only imagine the smile on your face when you have them set up and able to sit there and absorb it all in. Congratulations on your new acquisition. I'm hoping that it shouldn't be too much longer?
Hey Lloyd, That's great I hope your happy with the Burmester. My system has changed alot I just have not bothered posting the changes. New DAC, new Turntable, Arm & Cartridge, new cables and one of the hardest decisions I think I have ever made in my life definitely in Hi-Fi I have sold my beloved Wilson Alexandrias. I have not had a good nights sleep since doing so! Kind regards Bigpond
Just wanted to let you know i also picked up a (2nd hand) Burmester 948...fantastic. Really enjoy it and for me, significantly better than the Nordost Thor and Transparent Audio power conditioner i used to use. So that's Zanden digital/CJ GAT/Gryphon Colosseum and Wilson X1s...i am clearly following in your greater bigger footsteps!!! Hope you continue to enjoy your magnificent system.
Congratulations with your marvellous system and happy listenings bigpond! I checked your comments regarding Gryphon Mephisto Solo amps since you switched from ARC to Gryphon. It seems you are enjoying your Class A monos over Ref 610t, may I ask what you mean by these being polite as you have written a couple of times as describing their sound? Do you find ARC Ref 610t as more agressive? Does it refer to bass or dynamics also? Sorry if I am asking too many questions but I have been using Ref610t for a couple of years, while I like them, recent tube failures as well as tube aging and replacement (even finding 4 x 8 matched pair 6550 winged C is a pain in the neck) testing my patience over time. I am considering if it is time or if there is room to switch to a SS amp which will not make me missing my tube amps, keeping or even improving virtues of my current amps while not messing with tubes anymore. Any feedback will be great help. Thanks.
Congrats!!! Enormously good transport. I have heard the Metronome Kalista Ref, not the Ultimate. And the Kalista Ref is the best transport i have heard...incredible.
Bigpond,..Music types that speak to me and mirrors my life I find most important. Most of the music I listen to and obtain is representative of my "back in the day", from the late 70's thru the 80's, to the now. Gospel, jazz, classical r&b all filter through my gear. Old cassette tapes of some 30 years and LP's of long ago still brings me listening pleasure. Good gear makes even the worst recordings sound better and of course reveals the flaws. The love of the songs and the experiences it brings to mind makes it enjoyable.
As grand as your system is, it is great that you mostly enjoy the music over the gear. Happy listening and thanks for stopping by my slice of heaven. Glen
Hi Glenfihi, Many Thanks for the kind compliments, I rarely listen to Audiophile recordings I mainly listen to CD from the 70's, 80's & 90's so my hunt is really for a system that can help some of these trashy recordings sound a bit cleaner and more revealing. What music are you into? Once again thank you
Hi Lloyd, Not sure what I want to do yet as you know I am a Loudspeaker Nutcase but don't know if I want to go there or maybe look at DAC or Tonearm upgrade! Kind Regards Bigpond.
