Apo, thanks, noted.

555dok, I took a look at the Magnepan user site, looks interesting, but a little too much handiwork involved.

Audiobroke, wow you're right. Pure coincidence though :)

You should rename this system, "things that start with M". I've never seen so many "M" components in a system.

The mye stands provide an easy improvement and will give you a better image focus as well as better bass (load them with shot). Many people on the planar asylum boards think a "simple" upgrade of the crossover components on the 1.6 speakers result in better sound than the stock 3.6's. I have not heard the upgraded crossovers but the consensus was that upgrading to: 1 Jensen 22uF/cap (tweeter series), 1 ansar supersound 25uf/cap (woofer shunt, and 1 northcreek 12 ga custom? inductor (woofer series) per speaker took it to an entirely new level of resolution. Check the magnepan user sites as the recommendations change over time.

Hi foong
Mye stands for the 1.6s will help, but if you upgrade, e.g. to the 3.5 or 3.6 deals that opo up once in a while I would think that to be more bang/buck.
Wilsons or Avalons. Wow. These dynamic designs have a sound very different from Magneplanars. If you go that route, expect to spend time and money seeking a replacement for much or all of your Mit cabling. (Not a slam on Mit - just the observation that big system changes benefit from different cable design "styles") Wilson and Avalon make speakers renowned for resolution and presentation of detail, sort a like Spectral. Depending on your sonic tastes, you might find the presentation a bit cool or fatiguing. This can be addressed by careful matching to the front end (in your case digital only?) and cables. It's hard for me to suggest specific units because sonic preference makes one listener's "the best whut ever wuz!" another's "Eww no WAY".
Best of luck...
cheers apo

Aporigine, thanks. That is one of the avenues I've been considering. The others are: (i) looking for some mye stands for the 1.6s; (ii) swappiing out the 1.6s and the Depth for either Avalons / Wilsons, although the thought of setting up such heavy speakers seems a little daunting. In the meantime I've just parted ways with the DMA-90 and am currently waiting for a DMA-150 to arrive.

Bigger Maggies? :D

Would appreciate any thoughts on how I can improve the system while keeping the Spectrals :)

System edited: Changed CD player from a Sony SCD-XA9000ES to a Meridian G08. Added MIT Shotgun S1 RCAs for the G08. Currently there is an additional Meridian G06 in the system, connected by MIT Shotgun S2 RCAs. Added a Magnum Dynalab ST-2 antenna for the tuner. Replaced MIT MH-750E Plus speaker cables with MIT MH-750 Shotgun Series 2. Added Martin Logan Depth subwoofer, connected from preamp with MIT AVT2 RCA interconnects.
