The mye stands provide an easy improvement and will give you a better image focus as well as better bass (load them with shot). Many people on the planar asylum boards think a "simple" upgrade of the crossover components on the 1.6 speakers result in better sound than the stock 3.6's. I have not heard the upgraded crossovers but the consensus was that upgrading to: 1 Jensen 22uF/cap (tweeter series), 1 ansar supersound 25uf/cap (woofer shunt, and 1 northcreek 12 ga custom? inductor (woofer series) per speaker took it to an entirely new level of resolution. Check the magnepan user sites as the recommendations change over time.
