I have had a true love hate relationship with this crazy hobby but am starting to find what I love and less of what I hate. Music is what matters! The wife and I love jazz, classical and small scale accoustic rock. Being from New Orleans, we have a true love for un amplified jazz and accoustical music. Any suggestions with regard to 2 channel enlightenment would be greatly appreciated. And yes, there are actual musicians that enjoy "music" as opposed to "the next high dollar non return on investment " part of this hobby as well. See my music section. Peace!
System edited: New pics with new room decor and soon to be added equipment. I will be receiving a pair of Spendor SP7/1's and a Rega P5 early this week.
System edited: I am in the process of adding some corner tunes, and yes I tried the Mapleshade DIY bedrock stand just for fun. So all you purists out there, don't crucify me too bad, I'm just having some no cost fun!!
Hey Bruce! I have been on the road traveling for business and have not had a solitary moment to myself to get things set up properly, but this weekend is mine brother and I will let you know what I think. Thanks!
I think you and your wife'll be surprised at how much easier to hear your music will become with the midrange more under control.
Speaking of live music, my wife & I went to see The Reverend Horton Heat on wednesday. There's nothing in hi-fi that can quite match the visceral experience of an upright bass being played vigorously through about 10,000 watts of amplification to at least twenty 18" woofers in a small theater. :D
System edited: A sunday afternoon of real life jazz in the streets of New Orleans sharpens the ear, AND makes you realize no matter how much money we through at this crazy hobby, nothing can replace LIVE accoustic music in the streets! For Free!!!!
Bruce, I just pulled the trigger on some corner tunes so I will let you know how things pan out. Thanks as always for your insightful and experienced input. Peace!
System edited: I'm so pleased with the new Goldring LOMC, that I believe I am a MC convert for life! Effortless sound with dead quiet black background. The wind instruments now have wood! Beautiful!
Thanks Al, she was so down to earth and friendly! And all around great person, but I think my wife got a little jealous since she did not hug anyone else for their photos! ha ha.
Bruce here again, I just wanted to show you these larger tri-corner traps I found today. They're made by a new company called Primacoustic and retail for $99/pair (check out the sale price & bask in the savings ;) You'll want to use at least 4 (these can be used on the floor tri-corners too if you're a fanatic.) Judging by your current paint selection I'd go with the black because the beige would draw too much attention and the grey probably won't match. $200 for a $1000 dollar improvement.
System edited: My picture with Margo of the Cowboy Junkies live at the Manship Theater in Baton Rouge, LA. Best live show I have heard in all my years of concerts! And they are really down to earth amazing musicians!!! I can officially die happy now! Peace!
That's great to hear. I have been wondering if corner tunes would be worth the cost. I have hardwood floors in the listening area with an area rug, so that would be a welcome upgrade! Thanks!
I came to the same conclusion about Magnepans. The only thing you need to complete your system now is a 4 pack of Room Tune's "Corner Tunes" (or any other tri-corner type absorbers really.) We just tried them in my bro'n'law's tv room & these things work wonders. He has tile floors with no area rug or carpet in his tv room and the Corner Tunes by themselves really help lessen the cacophony.
