If you can't pull the speakers forward, you might try some absorption behind them and a diffusor between them. You may find this cleans up bass clarity and improves focus.
Have you ever tried playing around with speaker placement? Getting them out 1,2, or 3 ft. from the wall may provide significant improvements. Enjoy the ride!
