It is now 2015 and I have finished my Lamm Signature Triad(ML3,LL1,LP1)It is without a doubt the finest I have seen or heard,I am done with electronics.I am still using the Avalon Isis,it just grows on you and never gets old.I am still up to date on my Walker MKV,I added the oiless and carefree compresser,what a dream.I added a second Troy signature for the ML3s and it works superb,I also am using 4 Thor SE grounding cables in the system and they are a tremendous achievement.I am using Dalby audio single and Duo isolation feet under all my components,they are a component unto themselves.And last but not least the latest and greatest Elrod Diamond cabling to tie it all together.I almost forgot the MD 809 Internet Tuner,a real work or art.
Absolutely amazing,have not heard a speaker in its class.After 2 years I just love everything about it.

I have heard Avalons can be tough to drive...purely as a guess, I think its the extremely quality of your ML3s which is going the extra several miles to deliver every bit of 32 watts with untold power reserves to ensure those 32 watts are full 32 watts.
In other words, the ML3 have all the necessary peak dynamic range to make sure that, at 32 watts, the entire spectrum of dynamics in a piece is still played 'perfectly' within the proper dynamic peaks of the base 32 watts. That gives you a 'base volume' of 95db +/- (low level lawnmower?) setting aside listening distance, etc..and if the ML3 can allow for a musical dynamic range of 30db+/- you are in great shape!!
I will tell you one thing,the Avalon Isis claims 90db efficiency and nominal 4 ohms(min 3.6)but the Ml3s drive the heck out of them.I don't know is Avalon is being conservative with their specs,but I am quite happy.As the amps have broke in they have great control of the bottom end.
Great stuff, JFrech. I honestly can say I can THIS CLOSE to ML2.2s a while back as Oneobgyn knows as he kindly offered me good counsel at the time. I had no opportunity to hear them and buying blind while probably would have been perfectly fine...just made me too unsure to put up that kind of money (even 2nd hand).
Plus, I wanted the flexibility to drive a less efficient speaker than my current Wilson Grand Slamms. If I did not have an inkling I might switch speakers someday...I probably could have gone for the Lamm setup 'blind' given the incredibly uniform set of compliments about Lamm/Wilson I have read over the years.
I got a chance recently to hear the Lamm LL1 Signature recently vs a Absolare Preamp. Speakers were Wilson Alexandria's. Amps were the Lamm M2.2.
I choose the Lamm...buy a LARGE margin.
We started off with the Absolare...listened for a few hours..it was fully warmed up...had about 100 hours play time...I honestly was ready to go home and write off that system as yet another with poorly match components and not set up right.
Then I talked the owner into putting his Lamm back in. Holy smokes...everything locked together...the bass...the coherence...the images outside the speakers...toes were tapping big time.
The Absolare did depth better...and transparency better...but at the clear expense of everything else. Maybe it needed more breaking time...
That was the first all LAMM set up I'd heard...I see what you guys like LAMM...
I have had the Lamm Signature Components for the good part of a year(ML3,LL1,LP1)and I would not trade any one of them for anything on the market,Period.They are the best sounding,most musical,natural things I ever had,and they are also built like a tank.Most satisfying purchase I ever made in Audio.
as a fellow owner of an ML3 and using them on even more efficient speakers than yours I can attest to the truth of your statement.
In fact I have twin JL Audio F113 Fathom subs in my system which can easily be left off with little change in the music. Those who have heard my room also agree
Hi Malcolm, I did not say it has better bass than the CAT amps,I said it does not have the impact of the CATS but it has better control and definition for what it puts out in the bass region.From there up it is no contest the LAMM is far superior to any amp I have heard. The tubes I was using in the CAT were from CAT and they were about 1 1/2 years old. Don't get me wrong ,I love CAT amps and pre-amps but the LAMM signature series is just better as a matter of fact much better. That is my opinion. Robert
Malcolm are you suggesting that Strapping doesn't know what he's hearing despite having both amplifiers in his system driving the same speaker ? It's conceivable the Lamm could have the superior designed /quality power supply and mated superbly with his speaker's load characteristics. More watts doesn't 'always' mean better bass , there are other factors to consider.
I think the room shape helps you indeed. It is not always necessary to have the lunatic fringe room if the room shape and acoustics are friendly. Enjoy, enjoy.....

One thing that has always blown me away about all CAT amps is their amazing bass. Not just for a tube amp but for ANY amp. So how is it possible that the single-ended ML3--about which Fremer recently described the bass as "adequate" and "not the best there is, but better than expected"--have better bass than the JL3?
Theres only one explanation Strapper: your tubes are shot. That also explains your other comments about the JL3, none of which jibes with my personal experience.
Look, I have no horse in this race but it's pretty obvious you do. So I've got to ask: when did you get those tubes and from whom? Does this have anything to do with being a Lamm dealer?
Hi,thanks for the compliments.The Ml3s seem to work quite well with the Isis,I think it has something to do with the Isis pretty even impedence curve.It never goes below 3.6 ohms and never above 4.4 ohms and I think the ML3s loves that,it never really strains at all.On some heavy rock music it might give up a little impact that the CAT used to have but it has much better control and definition to the bass.+The CAT also sounded very congested in the midrange compared to the ML3s,as a matter of fact every amp I have heard sounds congested in the Mids compared to the ML3s,It is incredible from the mids up to the high end.Such air and separation and natural timbre,have to hear to really appreciate. My room is a finished attic,it was done in 1975 and I have had a high end system in their ever since.It is 16 x 25 with a 11 ft. peak that slopes down to a 4 ft. knee wall on each side.I have thought about getting it dormered but I get great sound and no standing waves because of the shape.It limits the height of the speakers I can get,but I have about 65-70 inches max on speaker height that I can make work,and I have it treated to help with any drivers to close to a surface.It is a very good sonic room.
Strapper211, Your system seems to be absolutely amazing, and I can only imagine that it sounds incredibly good. It is also obvious that it is one of the most costly systems that I have seen in virtual systems. I have always wondered about the room it is in though. I haven't read most of the posts on this thread, and you may have addressed this before, but I am accustomed to seeing systems of this caliber in specially designed rooms, like Mike Lavigne for example. Your room appears to be a rather small second floor room ,judging from the sloping ceiling on the side walls. Is your space limited, and do you find the room that your system is in a limiting factor? By the way, my system is probably worth less than one of your power cords, and my room is quite small as well, although it works nicely for me. I have just always wondered about yours because the system is so monumental.

Hi, The ML3s are sitting on Lee Dalby isolation feet right now,I am waiting for a set of HRS M3X Bases for them that are about 3 weeks away so I will hold pictures till then,they look a little sloppy right now. As for the sound they are incredible,even my Girlfriend who always says it sounds the same regardless of what I do said it was nothing like she ever heard.And my Friend said it sounded like each instrument had its own little speaker. Hi, Hooked the ML3s up yesterday,listened for about 4 hours and they are really something special.The clarity and space around the instruments is amazing,and they sound so natural.Much more listening but that for starters.
The Diamond cantilever looks like a piece of glass,almost see through and yes it is all one piece. I am hooking up the ML3s tonight,I have been quite busy,but I am dying to hear what they sound like.
