System edited: A total reboot from my previous system(s)

Hey Arthur, how ironic that both you and I are doing similar with efficient speakers - TW GR speakers were on my short list too - looking good in your room but still look large.

I have never owned a high efficient speaker before and always wanted to, I experienced for the first time a speaker which is 98db and plays 20 to 20 with no crossover on 7 of the octaves, very nice indeed. Have you ever heard one? It's a Horning speaker, looking forward to matching them up with appropriate amplification.

Hi Art,

just coming over from Albert's system posting, thought best to do so.

You were too funny when you mentioned just tagging along, your room is gorgeous and your system components are very fine indeed and I can only imagine how sweet it must sound.

The VAC Statement 450's would be right at home, I look forward to learning more about your new speakers mentioned above.

Hi Arthursmuck, I was at a dealers today and finally got to hear the 300.1. It was paired up with a ARC Ref3 pre which I currently have and ARC Ref cd7 red book cd player, speakers were Sonus Faber Elipsa.

I really don't understand some dealers, this dealer has a Sig. Vac pre but does not have it hooked-up and just sitting on a shelf. I asked what are your thoughts of the difference between the ARC and Vac pre is there a benefit of synergy using the Vac. Answer was yes the Vac sounds better hooked up with the Vac. amp., my thoughts are why don't you have it hooked-up then.

I don't like the sound characteristics of the Sonus Faber Elipsa speakers so I was trying to hear around them if you know what I mean. What I did hear sounded promising, really nice holographic stage presence, and tonal qualities were very pleasing, bass did not sound very good nor did it go very deep, very loose and did not sound realistic.

Overall very nice looking piece and most defiantly I would like to hear it with in my system but with the Sig. pre. The only issue is that as expected it does throw off a bit of heat, one hour in a room of about 20ft by 30ft and I could feel the difference in room temperature getting substantially warmer.

Do you think one would drive my MBL 101E's properly or realistically if I'm going to go this route I should be looking at two? Double the heat not sure if it will be proper in the wife friendly zone, in my designated room yeh no issues.

Very attractive looking piece, can you actually turn off the front of this unit which is lit up if you wish to do so?

I appreciate any input.

Hi Arthersmuck, Thanks for your reply back and advise. One of the nightmare stories is posted by "Hifimaniac" on the All Out Assault section. Look at "Almost LIVE" thread and you will see what "Hifimaniac" has to say.

That's great to hear that your experience differs being great, that is what I want to hear if I'm going to buy into the Vac product line as you know what I'm looking at getting.

How much heat does the 300.1 amp through off? and the pre.

What is the tube life for the amp and pre?

I appreciate the info. as know one else seems to have posted owning these as of yet so it's hard to get any info.

Regarding the 300.1, my main concern is getting proper bass control, what are your thoughts regarding this?

Thanks again.

Arthursmuck nice looking set-up. I'm seriously looking at getting two of the 300.1's and Sig. pre-amp no phono.as this system is not my main set-up but in a living room atmosphere. Where do you find the 300.1 and Sig. pre's strengths and have you noticed any weaknesses, what other gear are you comparing your experiences too?

I have the Eggleston Andra 2's, Pass X-600.5 mono blocks, Audio Research Ref3 pre, Oracle 2000 transport, Accustic Arts NEW Tube dac. I am getting some pretty amazing sound but I have only had one experience with tube amps with the Andra's, that being my previous ARC REF 300's which were from a second system but they could not control the bass properly and over all sound I was not impressed. I find bottom end area is the hardest to control properly on my Andra's, like I mentioned the sound I'm getting right now is amazing but I do want to get some tube amps in my system to do the comparison. I could get one 300.1 but my configuration is all set-up for monos and I'm not about to start changing that. How much heat do these throw off? What type of hours is one expected to get out of these.

I was kinda staying away from VAC, reason being I have heard some nightmare stories regarding reliability and lack of actual service if issues happen to come up.

I am also looking at Cat. Sig stereo which seems to have a really great reputation for sound and can drive have been told will drive my speakers with ease and cost the same as only one of the 300.1 amps but have I heard allot of negatives also regarding service.

Any thoughts would be well come from anyone.

Thanks
