2K...ouch. Please pass along my condolences to your wallet.:)

I`ve taken a little break from working on my main system and am putting together a killer can rig for the office. My akg k701`s will be here tomorrow. Actually, I`m plenty happy with the main rig but will probably upgrade my amp also sometime down the line.

Good luck with your new amp.

Jim, what`s the latest on your acoustic panel odyssey?

    Jim,

From reading past posts on this site, I believe the general consensus is that burlap provides the best sonic covering for these diy panels for reasons I don`t recall offhand..fwiw. You might do a search.

Tube rolling can be great fun. I have an audio aero prima hybrid int. amp with a single 6922 tube in the pre. I replaced the jj telsa it came with to a vintage 1960 amperex PQ A-frame. Fairly expensive but I needed only one. Tailored the sound to my liking beautifully.

Jim, my merlin monitors only go down to 55 hrtz. Since I live in an apartment, altho concrete sided, I feel that is enough bass for me for now. When I finally do add a sub, I`ll address those inherant bass issues.

My primary reason for using large first reflection panels is to help with sound staging as my listening room is L-shaped into the breakfast room. They work well in that capacity.

When you get your owen corning pieces situated, I`ll be curious as to your opinion of their effect.

    Thanks.

fwiw...My panels are made with, and supported by 2x2" legs and feet with a plywood backing covered with heavy carpet. Portability has many advantages.

For the wall behind my speakers, I hung drapes on a solid wall. It not only offers sonic value, it appears that I have another window. YMMV.

Have fun and enjoy the music...

Thanks for the update Jim. I knew you`d be pleased with the Herbie`s tweeks.

My rig is simple. One int. amp...one cdp. Another of our learned audiophile bretheren suggested that I put my two maple stands, which were on spikes, on hand balls which were first inserted into pvs pipe ends. I did that and the improvement in instrument timbre, soundstage, etc. was substantial. You might try this inexpensive tweak. Well worth it imo.

I also fabricated my own side, 1st reflection stands out of plywood and carpet. Another inexpensive and easy tweak.

Keep up the good work and keep us informed.
