Linn based AV system with active crossovers throughout using a total of 20 amplification channels. My efforts have focused on simplicity both in the system and the room environment. This has not been an easy task given the amount of wiring involved in a 5.1 Aktiv system. I have also paid attention to proper centre speaker placement. I've removed the kit rack from behind the centre, pulled the centre to proper wall distance, and used a dedicated Linn stand. The result has been major sonic improvement for 5.1 and I think minimal space intrusion. I could no longer tolerate the boxed-in sound of the centre placed under the plasma against the wall or on the floor.
Linn certainly makes higher performing compponents than presented here. I felt there were significant diminishing returns beyond this point. I'm holding ground with the Unidisk SC, the 5125 and the Akurates. The next step will be the interconnects; once I'm completely satisfied with kit placement. Any recommendations for 2m interconnects above the stock Linn Black performance?
Beautiful system layout. I have had many Linn products. If you have a chance, you may want to audition the Unidisk 1.1. I replaced my SC with one, and it is just amazing. I use Audio Research Reference components, and it is just about the best source player I have heard. Of course it does not process the A/V........ I also found Shunyata power products improve Linn performance greatly.
You have lovely taste. I'm just a dude with a big room and a bunch of wires.........
System edited: As the title says! Just testing... Actualy sounds MUCH better which means I need dampening - this is obvious based on inintial room but I like the cleaner look. I'll probably just get an area rug.
I did have the 242's in passive first (and Katans before that). Going Aktiv was definitely the biggest jump in peformance so far.
The Unidisk series are fabulous when they work. Unfortunately many of us with earlier production models have been "beta" testers. Mine is once again at the shop... and my warrenty is ending soon.
Still, the SC is an amazing value and performer. I would WAIT before buying one. Linn will reissue it with Digital video connectivity soon.
Very nice system. I am indeed jealous. I have the step below your speakers (Espek and Ekwal) in a passive 5.1 system and they are super. Yours must sound amazing. Did you run them passive prior to going Aktiv? Just wondering about HOW much difference it actually makes. Also, I was looking at updating my processor. How have you liked the Unidisk SC so far as your processor? Have you used anything else with the Linn speakers before that you can compare it to?
I've never been to Ottowa, but my first thought on seeing the view out the window was that it reminded me of the architecture in Vancouver, BC. A much lovelier view with your girls, and yes,I'd love to come to the next spanking party too. Perhaps if you have enough soft and luscious girls in the room, you don't need any other room treatments to cancel the room reflections as others have mentioned. My favorite cables are from Oritec audio. http://members.ispwest.com/orim/audio/OritekAudio/slide7.html Cheers, Rolloff
Thanks Hakancez. I do beleive very strongly in harmony. It has to sound good for sure but making it sound good and look good is a much more complex task. A never ending task in fact!
You know Ottawa mtnman, you also have a great looking apartment there. I am sure the stereo is in the biggest room in the house. What would vastly improve the sound is some room treatments along with an area rug. I am sure that you are getting far too many reflections from the side walls and hardwood floor. I would give this some thought before upgrading cables, that is as long as the girls approve.
hi, you have a nice linn system, but most of all those girls are really nice i like it can you post somemore pictures of those lovely girls enjoy the party and listening.
