I have a dedicated music room in our basement. It has been extensively treated acoustically with bass traps and diffusors in all the right places. This is the best listening room I've ever had. I listen 90+% of the time to classical music. This system does a great job of reproducing acoustic instruments. Violin, cello and piano timbres are rendered very realistically. System dynamics are outstanding. Recently added the Starkrimson class D monoblocks which are undergoing extensive listening trials.
Timrhu, Thanks for your comments. I have been weighing the possibility of taking care of first reflection points in this room. Yes, the speakers are a big visual presence but the really sound great in the room. As I mentioned, they can easily overload the room if I push the volume. Mark
Wow, beautiful system. Although I'm sure it sounds wonderful, those are some big speakers for the room. I tried a pair of 2CE sigs in a similar sized room. The sound was good but their physical presence was too much for me. You should consider some first reflection point treatments. Even some inexpensive DIY panels for experimentation.
Nice !! I also have the Cary 211's they are really great amps one of the best I have ever heard. Let me know how you like them with the SLP-05, thats a cool preamp.
System edited: Also, forgot to mention the Adcom 5400 amp in the rack which I use to drive the Insignia 6.5 rear speakers in my Hafler-type surround set-up.
System edited: I've added a couple of pics. You will notice that the equipment rack has a couple more components in it than I've listed. That's because the tuner (Marantz ST551) and cassette deck (Marantz DL3507) are rarely used these days.
Haven't checked this in a while and didn't realize there were a couple of questions posed.
Mingles - I was concerned about the room size with the 3A's but it has turned out to be fine. Floors have carpet but other than that I have no specific room treatments. My very large cd collection sits on racks along the back wall (right behind my listening chair) so I suppose that acts to some degree like a diffusor. I'd like to have these in a bigger room but the room I am using is dedicated to music and is the best compromise considering other locations in the house.
Mark02131 - Thanks for the compliment. The 211's are sitting smack dab on my carpeted floor. They were too big for the previous amp stands I had (which I've now sold). And yes, I am fully balanced from source to amps.
Hi Krisjan, I'm curious how the 3A Sigs perform in such a small listening space. Room size is such an important factor. Are yours walls and floor treated to absorb sound? Best, Mark
