I have been updating and changing out this 2 channel system for just a little over one year. I started out with the smaller MG1.6R maggies and fell in love with their sound. Everything about this system is new to me...and I'm having a blast tweaking it out!!
I also have a great 6.1 home theater system upstairs with Pioneer Elite electronics and HD RPTV, B&W speakers and a huge SVS sub.
System edited: My Bel Canto DAC3 is scheduled for delivery tomorrow. My review will follow shortly. I'm expecting a huge upgrade with this unit!! The PV-12A may go into storage as the DAC3 can be hooked up straight to my amp. If and when I get a TT, I can introduce the preamp back into the system.
My wife got me a set of Cardas maggie jumpers for Christmas. Now my crossover boxes are off the back of my speakers, and I can tell an improvement in the over all sound!!
Yeah - good info. That is low!!! If you could have a sonically lossless crossover, would you like it to be 50 or 60? So the more dynamic woofer can handle more of the super low parts, or does it feel 'just right' to you?
System Update: I recently bought a Conrad Johnson PV-12A preamp off of a friend. I will soon be taking advantage of the phono section of this fine preamp to jump back in to vinyl!!
I run my maggies full and run the ML Depth with speaker level from amp. I cutoff @ 30Hz on the sub. I have sub and maggies calibrated using a Rives CD that compensates for my Radio Shack SPL meter.
Those stands are made in Canada by Grant Vandermye. I had them on my old 1.6 maggies, and they really helped improve the sound quality. And when I moved up to the 3.6's, I ordered a new pair of stands for them. Grant is a great guy to deal with. Here is a link to his web site!!
Your Maggies are gorgeous. Owned Maggies back in 1977. Wonderful live sound. If I did'nt have 3 Siamese cats that would use them as a tread post, I,d own a pair today.
I'm real happy with the Rotel RB 1090, and may at some point get another one so I can biamp!!
Cvalle, The ASC sub trap made an immediate improvement in the bass responce in my system. I have rearranged my room, and actually now have my sub behind my rack sitting on the sub trap with an 11" tube trap on top of the sub. I have added several 16" Super Traps also. My room is now about as good as it is going to get!!
How do you feel about your Sub Stand? I don't know if they sell that anymore (in favor of the larger--too large?--SubTrap). I've got a Revel Ultima Sub30, so the lower stand like yours would be more suitable. Thoughts?
I tested the new Rotel 1077, that class D amplifier, 4 days ago on my 3.6R. I'm bi-amplifying the maggies with a Marchand electronic xover. I have used 4 of the 7 amplifiers available into the Rotel. It was very good. Not as good as my actual amplifiers, but the Rotel is twice cheaper than my 2 amplifiers! If you like the Rotel sound, you may like this one. It also helps to access bi-amp which represents a huge improvement on the maggies! Or you could go for a second 1090 ;-)
Thanks for all the nice comments. I have tried tweeters inside, but prefer them outside. I may try a bit more diffusion rather than foam in the center on the front wall.
Great system that you have! Did you try to put the tweeter inside instead of outside? I know the speakers are close one from each other but in all my tests, it has always been better inside. Soundstage is smaller but better. It seems also to me that it is easier to get deeper bass with tweet inside ;-)
Very nice1 I am workin on my room now so I hope I can get it in tune....I bet your room sounds great, I spent an afternoon with the 3.6's very pleasent, I was into Electrstats at the time so the 3.6 seemed to relaxed but now my mindset is changed I bet I could fall in love with the 3.6...but I am off the merry go round. NOTHING TILL THE ROOM GETS BETTER!
Hello Mike. Yes, your Radix power cables made a great improvement to all of my gear. I am currently using 5 of them!!
I have been working real hard to get this very difficult room to sound good. As you can see from my pictures, I have invested in quite a bit of acoustical tools. They did their job, and my system now sounds wonderful.....very musical!! You need to stop over some time!! I would appreciate your critical ears, and maybe some thoughts on what is right and what is wrong from what you hear!!
Howdy there Alan! Mike from Radix Power Solutions here. Your system looks great. I see you have some Maple Shade stuff too. Way to go man. I'll have to hook up with you soon.
