Sounds like great system. I have had the kg 5.2 for about ten years. Rock and blues all the way. Have you tried any norah jones. Track one (not the new cd) about 1/2 way thru when she let is rip comes thru with some static? Ever had that problem?
KG 2.2's are not magnetically shielded for use near video equipment. I currently have KG 4.2 mains, KG 3.2 rear surrounds, KG 2.2 side surrounds, and Kv3 center. My sub is the SW-12, though I am currently looking to upgrade to the RW-12 for LFE input. My receiver is the Harman Kardon AVR525. The best thing I could do for use with hardwood was to elevate the 4.2's. I use 9 inch stands with carpet spikes. The rubber feet on the 4.2's paired with the hardwood made for exceptionally boomy response. I have a pair of 1' x 1' x 3/4" marble slabs that protect the floors from the carpet spikes. Vocal quality was enhanced further by placing the center channel on a home-made stand on top of the entertainment center. I cut a 9 inch stand down to 3 inches, and I am using a set of brass buttons to protect the wood from the carpet spikes. The buttons have a slight indentation in the center that assures the stand doesn't slide onto the wood. My surrounds are all hung from ceiling joists, and the sub sits on it's own marble slab. You are on the right track. Keep up the good work.
foreverhifi, thanks for the input. The 5.2's 100w/8 ohms(1992-94) have a 1" phenolic Tractix horn 1800Hz hi XO, a 10" mid and a 12" passive woofer. The 2.2cc 75w/8 ohms(1992-94) has a 1" phenolic exponetial horn 2200Hz hi XO, and 2 - 6.5" mids The 3.5's 65w/8 ohms(1994-97) have a 10" polymer exponetial horn 1600Hz hi XO, an 8" mid & bass reflex port instead of the 12".
I made a change on the sub. I did some auditioning and decided to go with the B&W ASW600 10" ($440). Very tight, fast & clean, less boomy than the Def Tech. More what I was looking for (plus the maple finish matches the pecan flooring!).
set up right, you sould be able to get some very dynamic sound from that system! They key will be in proper speaker and seating placement, as well as overall set up. Still, the Klipsch's are dynamic sounding for sure. While I haven't heard the models you described, I KNOW YOU CAN GET A VERY CLEAN AND DYNAMIC system with the older RB3(?) book shelfs and that Def Tech sub! You sould also be crossing the speakers over as "small"(or at least "smaller") on your receiver, and letting the properly integrated(and placed) sub do the bass!!! They system will ROCK DYNAMICALLY!! If those Klipsch's have powered subs in them, then that might change the set up paramaters(I'm not familiar with your Klipsch models listed). Still, for a "first system", I think you'll get a good gauge of what you like with it! It will be strong for rock and movies at the very least. Now whether you like the refinement for other music, that's somethign you'll have to find out yourself....but I like your chioces I think! Good luck
