I still have mine and love them. I've had them about 2 years. I bought them without stands or the bass alignment filter but bought both since. I got the Sound Anchor stands mostly because they were priced right. The bass alignment filter is still available from B&W. Both improved the sound. The stands seemed to give more focus to the bass, while the BAF helped everywhere. I'm not sure why. The BAF is not the ideal solution since it adds another interconnect but was still worth it. I would really like to replace the crossovers with the North Creek versions but they cost almost as much as I paid for the speakers. I don't know much about the VR's but the 801's need big amps to get the good bass. They also sound a lot better at higher volumes.
