Description

I have been working on my new budget minded listening room, carved out of my basement for the last 8 months (in my limited free time). It is a simple room with limited space, but it is my new sanctuary from the wife and kids. I did all of the work myself except for the power and light wiring. I still have some finishing touches, but I am pleased with the results so far. I have added some custom fabric wrapped acoustical panels and plan to change my gear rack, upgrade my speakers, upgrade my chair, etc.

My system has been evolving over the last 5 years and plan to continue to add, tweak and upgrade as funds allow...

Let me know what you think!

Recent update: I came across a good deal on a pair of Totem Acoustic Model 1 Signatures and took the plunge. I like the Rainmakers, but I can see already the Model 1's are far more refined speaker with better imaging and clarity. Photos and updates to come once they are broken in...

Thanks again for all the positive feedback, I really appreciate it! I am starting to consider upgrading my speakers to potentially the Totem Model 1 Signatures or Dynaudio Contour S1.4's. As much as I would like to go to a floor standing speaker, I am concerned that they will be too large for the space.

Next up for the room is to add some shelving in the back corner for CD's and add an area rug.

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate the comments. The room is approximately 10'x 12'. When I was building it, I tried to stick as close as possible to the ratio's on the Cardas website, but I had limitations to work within. When I built the walls, I used commercial grade 5/8" drywall with a layer of 1/2" sound board and batt insulation between the studs.

The acoustic panels are Decoustics fabric wrapped panels that were custom made for a commercial construction project that the client decided not to use (Lucky for me).

I do plan to add an area rug and I actually have some rubber backed acoustic mat that I am going to install under the area rug that will also add to the dampening.

The pictures only have a plexiglass over them... But its more form over function I guess. I wanted to display my collection of concert posters!
