how do you like the dayton subwoofer? I am thinking of building one myself.

Youssef101,

Those are Audiopoints spikes. They are brass.

Chuttt,

Thanks for your comment. The foams really help cleaning up the image and increasing the soundstage depth. I also have some right behind my chair, I sit about 3ft from the back wall. The effect may be less if you have a direct source speaker. However, with the Maggies, it is a huge difference.

Hi Zephyr,
Where did you get those spikes in the DIY Ed Morawski stands? Are they Brass?

Hi Zephyr, I was looking to add some diffusion panels for my room too so I come across your system. First of all, this is a beautiful set up ! How do you find the foam wedges, does it help? I'm looking at adding them like the way you do but also behind my listening position as it's very close to the back wall. Would like to know your experience. Thanks.

Zephyr - I'm using a couple of 20 x 15 x 1 1/2" rubberwood butcher blocks under the CD player and amp that I picked up on eBay for around $50 each; rubberwood is related to maple and has similar characteristics. Have the isoblocks under the butcher blocks and am very pleased with the sound.

Timrhu, I used 3/4-10 thread aluminum rods. The spikes are from audiopoints and nuts are made of brass. The plan was to use brass rods but they are too expensive.

zephyr_wak

While you're on the subject of the rack, what size all-thread did you use? I built a similar rack but used Pennsylvania slate as the shelf material.

Bobgates, the rack is a DIY project that I built using Mapleshade rack as reference. Mapleshade uses solid maple for the shelves while mine uses pine. They are not as hard and heavy as maple but I think they work out fine.

zephyr_wak

Very nice system. Is that a Mapleshade rack?

Timrhu, thanks for the comment. That is the listening seat in the picture. I sit about 6ft away from the speakers and they are about 6ft apart to each other. This is the only position I find to sound the best. Move too far back and the soundstage shrink, too close and I hear midbass bump.

Beautiful system! While looking through the system threads I always find the simple systems most attractive. Yeah, the systems with $30K+ worth of gear are gorgeous but are they worth the trouble and expense? Your system looks to be made for music. That's what I'm in this for.
Is the seat in the picture your listening seat or a foot rest? It looks very close to the speakers for a listening position.

They are similar to auralex, combination of 2" and 4" foam wedges.

zephyr_wak

what kind of diffusion panels are those?
