Well, I guess I considered it a relatively "budget" system, when I see people spending 1000's of $'s on interconnects or $10k+ for a CDP! I suppose its all relative, though. I sold off the Cary V12R. It was cool looking but it just doesnt seem to be real compatible with the RM40's which seem to like a lot of current. Plus, the stupid Cary unit was always blowing fuses, tubes, etc.,. For me, it just wasnt worth it. It sounds just as good with the lowly Sunfire (although I would like to try some better SS amplification at some point, just to see what the VMPS can do - I'm leaning toward those Odyssey Extreme Monos, or maybe a PASS 250 or 350 if I can get the cash together).
Thanks, I like color too! I got tired of doing wood projects and using the same types of wood varnish and stains, so I thought I would add some color. After sanding the maple for weeks, I went to Home Depot and had them mix up a color they call "Bubble Gum." Used about three coats of that and then did about six or seven coats of clear gloss stain, sanding between each. The color works well with my pink (ok, dusty rose) carpet, and watercolor collection.
System Update:
I now have a Sunfire Symphonic Reference bi-amped with my Cary V12R. The Cary runs the highs and the Sunfire runs the lows (which is only from 28hz to about 166hz). Even with the Cary in 100 watt mode, it had problems controlling the bass. This works out much, much better.
I am now using a Channel Islands passive to control volume matching between the Cary and the Sunfire.
My Rotel 991 CDP (which I loved and is a great used player) has been replaced by the Musical Fidelity A308cr.
Actually, there is a logical reason for that. I am in a wheelchair and I have a hard time getting to the top of that shelf. It is much easier to toss in a CD on the CDP, than trying to manipulate a tonearm across a record!
