Your system looks impressive - I really like the turntable set-up.

And I really like the triple art display.

I am considering buying a used HRX with 12D arm. I read some negative things about the arm. Since you have experience with it, how would you rate it? What would be better on HRX? Love to hear your thoughts.

thanks, Jay

Nice system. The VPI rim drive Superscoutmaster is a great tt for the $.  Not sure if VPI has ever done much better.

Beautiful room and system- Happy Listening!

Darn. It is nearly ten years since I last commented on your fantastic setup!

Got to make more regular visits to such a well thought out system.

There are those who chop and change and then there are those who have long achieved SOTA who can only tweak / which are you?

shadorne

Very nice system!  Are you using the Anticable 4.1 reference XLRs?  Also, Are you using the "True Bi-wire" configuration suggested by Richard Vandersteen that's on Anticable's website?  I'm very interested in Vandies with Ayre components.  Thx

System's looking very nice.  Your set-up caught my eye because we both have VPI and Vandersteen 5A in the mix. Are you using the stock power cords with the Vandersteens?  Curious as to whether this might make a positive difference.  Also, what size is your current room?

Thanks!

Stringgreen, Member since 2013 ? What happened to you? I have a large gap myself. They put my old posts and feedback  back on. I remember the days when we often posted on the same subject.

Just curious,  how many hours do you put on your cartridges before retip or get a new cartridge?  I recently auditioned a Linn lp12 and I actually think my scout beats it in many areas.  The thing is I only had about 350 hours on the Benz as I have been keeping track.  We looked under a microscope and the cartridge is past its midpoint of wear.  It is wearing evenly.  Just wondering if my arm is eating cartridges too fast

I have and love Ayre. I have silver as that's what my friend offered me, lol....everyday I look at them and turn them on, I love it. They look great in both colors ;).....

That Ayre gear in black looks stunning! If I'm ever fortunate enough to obtain Ayre components they will definitely be clad in black. Sweet system you have there.

samac

Awesome and thanks for sharing.

..don't know if anyone is still reading this thread, but I moved on to the VPI 3D tonearm (a very big upgrade - use Discovery wire, not Valhalla)...have all the components on Audiopoints (another big upgrade).... and have just installed Maestro sockets in the walls to power my black blokes....a HUGE upgrade.

stringreen

What a great set up you have. jealous, lol

ctsooner

I read were you've installed the VPI ceramic platter. Could you upload a picture of it on your virtual systems page?

slaw

Stringreen, been thinking about matching my ARC gear with Vandies. The 5As are way too big for my man-cave, so I've been thinking about Quattro Woods. Any thoughts about matching the Quattro Woods with ARC gear?

bifwynne

RIP? It will never happen, unless you get a divorce.

Hi Stringreen,
So I finally took the plunge and got the Anti-Cables for my speakers. I'm just curious what your first impressions were. For me the highs were almost too much; not that they sounded harsh but so much more pronounced than my previous cables. However, just after a few hours I've already adjusted. I like what I hear. When you get a chance, please share your first impressions. Thanks!

Stan,
Long time user of the Benz LP off your recommendation. The LP is now shot. Soundsmith won't even touch it. I've opted for the trade in program on the LP-s again off your recommendation. If you do the math, this cartridge with it's high mass and relatively high compliance doesn't seem to match well with any arm. Many people though, including you, love it. We'll see. I also run the 5As on Ayre amps(MX-Rs). I figure a professional musician knows the sound of music, not just hi fi.

sonofjim

String, I owe you an apology. Roxy54 was right. I've always admired Vandys with Ayre. Never heard the Anti-Cables but your setup with Audioquest Sky/Everest was most pleasing to my ears.

My wit often supersedes my judgement.
I hope you'll forgive my indiscretion.

khrys

Nice system , nice room , lots of ayre .

tmsorosk

Nice system. Just curious - how wide is that room? What is the distance between the speakers?

milpai

Very nice. You may want to consider moving the Vandies out from the rear wall a bit. You'll be surprised what it will do for imaging depth. Try following the guidelines in the manual and making small adjustments from there, if necessary. Of course, you may need to change the bass equalization, but you'll probably find it well worth it.
