a friend and i(you can see his system on audioconsulting as mr k) Played with a deqx room correction to check perfect time alignement on a pair of duo and an altec 515/vitavoxs2/phl mid
it took us 2 days to check for correct setting only using the deqx as graph generator so to speak .
we ended up hanging the horns on fishing lines from the ceiling (you could see it on the pics)
once set as accurate as we could .i can honestly say that the duo performed outstandingly well .with a sense of ease that was not available before .it just times right sort of agile and very very articulate .i would say one or 2 steps towards realism
the bass ended up about 2' in front of the mid mouth
in fact the mid driver was more like 2 1/2 foot behind
may be way too impractical for you
and you still had to keep the mid/high sort of nearfield in a very similar setup audiophysic recommend for speaker placement . deqx did almost the same job with the speakers on their frame but changed the character of the cd player ( A REYMIO)quite a bit
i have seen a lot of die hard vintage altec /vitavox fans using tact in france .the disti for goto in france uses a tact to correct all these problems .
