I wanted a simpler look. The Linn stuff sold me when I heard it in full Aktiv mode.
It helped that the company is from Glasgow, where I was born and lived until I was 18.
Having lived with this setup now for a while, I am still impressed every time I sit down to listen.
Pull the speakers forward and they melt into the room with such a beautiful sound.
I had analog with a LP12, Ittok LVII and Trioka but unfortunately I could not give it enough playing time.
I have added a AV 5150 Sub to the room, stil playing around with it, but so far it has been a very good addition. Blends very well and sounds very smooth, I have it on spikes which helped alot.
Very impressive on the movie front, canon shots from Master & Commander DTS were just like standing there.
I moved the ProAc sub to a different location and use the High level Neutrik connection which is giving a really good balance in the room.
Finally found a really good sound for me, which is what we all strive for.
nice system; I amlmost bought a fully loaded linn lp12 setup but bought a truck instead oh well maybe next time.I had over 200 albums, and still have the bug to get back in,so if you do get the lp12 let me know how it works out for you.If you get a chance a 5120 aktiv, would be a good choice for a cener channel speaker, good luck Douglas.
I would like to do the minimal style, but the wife would like the TV hidden, so I have to live with the sound as is. I pull the speakers forward for any good listening. I am looking to get a used LP12 with a Linto preamp, i would like to try some records for a change.
I'm going to remove my pics if this is going to be the general attitude!
Seriously, nice system. Have you considered wall mounting the plasma and going with a minimal style rack. I think this would have a dramatic effect on your sound stage, no?
Thanks for all the kind comments. After listening for a while now, I have got the adjustments as good as I can. The sub is just amzing for music and movies using the HF Neutrik connection for Stereo and the Line level LF connection for HT it is like having two subs. The 5103 is a very capable unit, I dont miss a center channel at all, using Phantom mode the sound is always coming from the correct area even when sitting way off center. I am vey happy with the setup and am sure it will last me for a long time.
Wow! It's nice to see the Linn owners coming out of the closet. Like everyone else, I love the title of your system post. One question, am I the only person that has tried a tube preamp with an otherwise all Linn system? I was stunned by the positive impact. Nice gear by the way.
Eddiemc-ah the Drum,I was a Milton boy now staying in the West End. Played football at the Vale a couple of times-girlfriend works there with Polaroid.
Find it hard to believe the Windy City beats the Drum. :-)
Dave, I have pulled the speakers forward of the cabinet, it made a slight difference, better soundstage. I have moved the ProAc sub to the left corner and am using HF Neutrik connection. It sounds fast deep and gives a really great pair of speakers, lowww life.
Patricia Barber has never sounded so good, too me anyway.
Ben, I was born in Drumchapel, then moved out to The Vale near Balloch .
