Does all that Classe gear/amplification sound warm and slow? I always found them lacking in detail and transparency.

Hi Halcro, Have you tried London/Decca? I have a Super Gold with a John Wright fitted Paratrace diamond. It is exqusite and inexpensive.

I thought I'd add that my other pair of Eico HF35s monoblocs power the Spendor SP2/2 speakers on the end of a Sony DVD player. The sound is quite remarkable since I swapped out a Japanese sand amp....

Thanks Salectric. Yes, the EICOs are magic. You are right-classic circuits, good components, old Deccas and old jazz vinyl beat much of the new reissued stuff .

Exlibris, if you can afford it, go for the Reference... Call John Wright, he will advise. You have many options at the higher end. Look at the Soundsmith piezo (can't recall the name) cartridge.

I love my Decca Super Gold too. I had it re-tipped by John Wright in England with a Paratrace stylus which takes it to a new level.
