Update Oktober 2010: Already upgraded to Meridian DSP 5200. I was hooked on the DSP sound and thought 'what the heck'. Pictures will follow.
Update september 2010: I added an Onkyo digital dock with Ipod classic 160. The dock extracts the digital data from the Ipod which serves as a simple and portable sound server. The dock goes straight into the DSP speaker where the digital signal is handled. Sounds amazing really!
Keep it simple. No cable hassle or trying to find the perfect match between amp and speaker.
Just a source that runs digitally to the speaker. Digital Signal Processing in the speaker. Each unit its own amplifier.
Looks and handles simple. Sounds very detailed at all sound levels, great stageing.
Thanks guys. Just added a small notebook via usb to the Onkyo dock. From the hotseat I use a cordless mouse to control it. Sounds very nice (bitperfect). A very simple and easy to operate system. (I use iTunes).
After a period of listening to other speakers I decoded to keep my meridians. I was looking for a valve based system and tried a lot of options (e.g. Sonus faber, Martin logan, Focal, Audio physic). Every time I came back home from an audition, I was happy to hear my own system again.
So I know know that I will stick to the Meridians, they give me the sound i want.
System edited: Changed my Meridian cd player for an Oppo all in one. Plays through its digital audio output directly into the Meridian speakers. Sound on par with the Meridian on CD. Also used as BD player.
The speakers are controled by a remote that in fact controls the whole system. CDP and I-pod/digital dock only send out a digital signal to the speakers. Each speaker has a DAC, three power amps and a DSP module inside.
I modified the existing rack a bit by attatching a back pqanel to it so i don't see all the cabling behind it anymore. I keep on looking, but with this improvement i'm not in a hurry anymore.
I'll post new pictures of the system with the 5200's soon.
Thanks! I'm looking for a new rack for under the TV. I prefer one that is closed so only the TV and the speakers are visible. In my view that will improve the looks further.
But best of all, i'm very happy with the way it sounds!
