Description

My modest but very nice sounding system. As this is a living room and listening room, it combines both 2-channel and HT. The HT set-up is completely separated from 2 channel listening as the 2 channel Belles Aria Signature pre has an HT pass-thru. The Vandy Treo’s are driven by the Belles MB200’s, even in HT mode. My two subs are connected directly to the each of the Belles MB200 in stereo mode, thus no LFE. Vandersteen 2CE Sigs are my rear speakers. HT is not really ‘critical’ at all for me. My concentration is 99% 2 channel, and those components, especially the vinyl rig.

My rear speakers in HT. A bit of overkill, but sound great.

    • Belles Aria Signature Preamp
New 1/22. Very little info on this, but a wonderful preamp. Has broken in nicely.

Belles mono block amps. 200wpc of the wonderful David Belles sound.
    • Hagerman Trumpet MC
Tube Phono Pre with two CBS-Hytron 5814A in the au7’ sockets, and 2 Dynaco/Telefunken smooth plate + 2 Blackburn Mullard ax7’s. A combination I’ve settled on and sounds wonderful. Powered by a SBooster power supply. Sweet.

Power supply for the Hagerman Trumpet phono pre
    • SOTA Sapphire sIII
    Turntable

    • iFi Audio iPower
iPower X used to power my iFi Zen Stream
    • Media converter boxes and optical cable. Media converter boxes and optical cable.
Per a recommendation, purchased two media converters off Amazon tethered together with an optical cable. Nice improvement to SQ with more detail and definition vs without. Easy enough setup; router>two converter boxes tethered with optical via ethernet cable>iFi Zen Stream via ethernet cable.
    • Denafrips Ares II
    ‘Ladder’ DAC
    • Audiolab 6000CDT
CD Transport. Very nice improvement over the Yamaha Blu-Ray I was using as a transport prior.
    • Nakamichi CR-1a
    Tape deck
    • Yamaha RX-V781
    AV receiver
    • AudioQuest Comet bi-wire
These were literally ‘thrown-in’ with my Treo purchase, which was quite a deal. Running them installed right now. Sound very nice.
    • Western Electric 10 awg bi-wire speaker cables. 1950’s NOS
Custom made for me. Had these hooked-up to my Vandersteen 2CE Sigs, and recently the Treo’s. ‘Sitting on the sidelines’ right now while I check out the AudioQuest Comet set.

    • GR Research B16 Power Cables
One (1) six foot for my preamp, and Two (2) 4 foot for my mono block’s
    • Audience PowerChord
Power Cable. Just picked this up, thanks Spencer, for my Denafrips Aries II DAC. Interesting design, as it has a ‘fold away’ ground pin.
    • Pangea AC-14SE
Power cord for use with my Audiolab CD transport
    • BIC America F-12 Subs
2 - Connected in stereo via Belles amp. Cheap but powerful subs. Ports stuffed with foam in order to work with the mains. All crossover and gain settings at the Subs.
    • Bellari Audio HA540 Headphone amp
I hardly ever use headphones really, but as my Belles Aria Signature preamp has no headphone amp/jack, I purchased this simple tube headphone amp for those rare times I do. Replaced the stock 12AX7 tube with a RAM EI smooth plate, made on Telefunfen machinery. Pretty good deal for a smooth plate very similar to a Telefunken. Doesn’t sound too bad really. This is the earlier version of this amp.
    • Grado SR325
    Headphones
    • Record Doctor VI
    Vacuum record cleaner

Thank you Joel, I am indeed. As Jim would say, ‘fun’, and that’s what it is all about. 😉

Fantastic Brian!  I love the SOTA.  Have fun with the Trumpet phono stage, rolling tubes.  Enjoy the system in good health.

Hi rello, the rack is a non-audiophile rack that I purchased on-line through a home furnishing site. It is pretty well made actually, heavy, with a metal frame and wood shelves. It does the job I need it to do, and fits into my overall eclectic decor.

Thank you Robert, yes, I also love my SOTA. Incredible table.

bkeske

Nice setup. I really like the audio rack. Can you comment on it. ?  Thank you.

rello

Thanks so much. Yea, The Belles is a special purchase and amp. Lucky to have found it. I like your Thiel's as well!

bkeske

One of the best lived-in audiophile rooms I've seen, and very jealous of the Belles!  I was oh so close to buying a 350A and couldn't pull the trigger due to its age etc but imagine I will always wonder what I missed out on.

Steve, it’s pretty hi-tech.....3M double sided mounting squares 😉😄

Well, actually, I put them into groupings of 4 with packing tape to make a ‘full panel’, then use the 3M mounting squares to mount them to the wall. When I was experimenting with best placement, temporarily with good ol duct tape.

bkeske

How is the mounting structure?...... so that you can move them,?

Hey Steve. The acoustical panels were simply some acoustic dampening tiles I purchased on Amazon, and also got the ‘3D’ tiles on Amazon as well. The acoustical tiles are actually made for sonic absorption, but not real thick, so limited. The ‘3D’ tiles are actually architectural wall tiles, but obviously I’m using them for diffusion. So, although not purposely made for that purpose, they do a pretty good job. A lot of trial and error placing them all temporarily, moving around, flipping locations, etc. until I found the right mix to maintain/enhance the overall soundstage and imaging.

bkeske

Brian, Glad you posted your system. What are the acoustic treatments I see? I actually have the same Nak deck in storage. The SOTA looks great!

Thanks, yea, it’s like an audio cockpit 😁 Yep, a humidifier for the fall/winter months. Need to get another type though. It’s an ultrasonic that leaves a light white residue over everything. Wasn’t aware of that consequence when I purchased it.

Love the Zephyr, and has never sounded better with the Hagerman Trumpet I recently purchased. That said, I now wish I had the Lo version Zephyr MIMC Star instead of the high output Zephyr (2.4 mV). But, no complaints, albeit I may try an MC cart soon as well.

bkeske

Wow! What a maximum use of space you have both in placement, usage, and vinyl storage. Also - is that a humidifier I see next to one of the Vandersteens? How do you like you the Soundsmith?

Thanks Greg! Yea, I kinda like it too ;-)

bkeske

Looks like a nice comfortable listening space.  Love the 'table!

Thanks. That SOTA is fairly new to me, but what an incredible table. It really transformed my LP experience. I think I’ll have that baby for years to come.

bkeske

Nice room and nice system! That Sota looks great.

Thanks, it works, and is indeed comfy.....my little ‘get away’ after a busy day of work. As an architectural designer I like the modern clean look of yours as well. That has become incredibly popular with many of my clients over the last 4-5 years. Nice.

bkeske

Very cozy room, beautiful.
