jond Thank you. After ten years, the Yamamoto is staying, forever!  It presents wide open sweet and dynamic music. I just tried an Enleum 23r and Pass Labs XA25. Not sure what all the fuss is over a (beautiful physically small) headphone amp for loudspeakers. Its small compressed sound didn't work for me. The XA25 has great bass, information and dynamics, but in my system, insufficient sparkle of life in music.

The DAC produces beautiful rich music with proper dynamics and no digital artefacts. I have his RIAA which seems beyond compare. Enjoy.

Jeff, I replaced the original output caps with AN copper mylar of same value. Immediately more transparent, open, less veiled and musically right. A friend with your amp replaced O/P and other caps, in the power supply, but Duelunds not AN's. He thought the differences were subtle. In my system the modification worked well and I am happy with the result. good luck.

......Audio Note copper mylar caps transferred to output stage of SET. Wow!

Separate RIAA stage gives a little more, and TVC lowers noise floor by degrees, (cant count the number !) so more detail and air. (Croft w/ stepped attenuator (Takman carbons & 2W Audio Note Tantalums) blows sound cleanly wide open compared w/ Alps RK50. So the Croft delivers nearly as much as present units, perhaps a little more scale and impact. Being short of space, I am in downsize mode. I'm satisfied with present balance of system: delighted by LP's I previously thought dull.

Thank you. Just one; a Nelson Pass First Watt J2 (solid state) loaned by a composer friend. The J2 sounds VVG, it separated and layered information, and eased the sharp burrs of the SET, yet in doing this, it held back a little too much life, air and inter-resonation of instruments. In my set up, my SET conveys notably more of the open, natural, dynamic energy of music. I read there may be more of a "Triode quality" in the First Watt SIT3 or F8, that might give me more of a balance of the qualities I enjoy but I have yet to try.

Favourite? - full range single driver horn loudspeakers for purity of tone and startling transparency, with straight wire connection from SET to drivers (removed internal speaker wire and gold plated brass binding posts from both enclosure rears and drivers) and for a different time of day; ESL57's for magical surround sound sonority at low volumes.
