Hi, I see that you were running a Plinius SA-REF as one stage...can you tell me what you liked, what you didn't and why you changed. I am thinking about this AMP and realise it runs HOT in class A. What are you running now? Regards, Jon
Thanks Josh, I hate the hi-fi racks... at the moment I'm using two cheap IKEA furniture, out of production at the moment. Probably I will upgrade it soon with a custom design forniture.
I'm using simple concrete platform with rubber or spikes.
I love the look of your system, especially without the fugly hi-fi racks. Question: what exactly is that white entertainment piece? It looks like BOConcept. Also, can you tell me precisely which isolation platform you are using.

Hi, I found the Audio research mono amps were a fantastic match for the maggie especially in the midrange. The Halco was stunning everywhere. Bass like you would never believe. So fast and it made the maggie sound really vivid.
I really like Levinson gear although I think it is expensive for what it is. That lovely finish I suppose you are paying for too.
Why are you going back to a class a/b amp after classD? Did you need more power or do you just prefer their sound?
A good friend has the 464 monos on some Wilsons. Quite nice driven by the ML 390s direct.
Yes, I use the NuForce and Maggie combo with satisfaction in these months. I find the right tonal balance with these. Now I upgraded with Mark Levinson 436...:))
how do you find the nuforce amps with the maggies? I use ICE power Bel cantos amps on Apogees, but I ran various Magnepans for years with all sorts amps Valves, solidstate and class D
I find in the K1 the natural evolution of the B&W sound. No cabinet coloration, no dynamic compression...the sound is really free from the speakers. In regards of the classic B&W sound the Vivid have more neutrality in the midrange section and a smooth high section.
After having the 800's for a week and a half, I can also conclude that they are beast apart when compared with my 801S2 or S3. Mids and highs are performed with higher accuracy, and... what to say about the soundstage? The 800's go beyond. The bass response is not as tough as the 801's, being always controlled and never stressed. They carried together the B&W BAF, but I still have not connected it to the system. I remember I tried it with my old 801S2, but I never listened to novelties, so I decided to put it off. Have you got any experience with the Bowers BAF together with your whities? Thanks in advance! Jorgitox.
Yes is the series ONE edition. They are really different from the 801, the 800s had a smooth midrange and a big, big soundstage. These big sculpture need a powerfull amplification and sound better in bi-amp configuration. I adjust the bass aligment with my TacT digital eq. for a really deep bass.
Hi and congratulations for your system, Ace. Are you 800's from Series I edition? Mine's are going to be placed in 20m2, upgrading over my beloved 801's. Best regards.
Arkprof, the 800s has a really big soundstage with a huge dynamic range. But I love these monuments because of the ability to reproduce any little detail with precision... No other big speakers can do it as the 800s. The mid/high range have a extraordinary precision without any hardness, the bass section is very strong but never without control... I hope to enjoy these speakers for many years..

Ace, I've never heard the Matrix 800s, but I remain intrigued. Seems like a small room for a B&W, maybe especially for that speaker, so what were they like and were you able to enjoy all that they could do (the threads suggest they've been replaced)? Nice to see them, again. Thanks for the nice pics.
