Description

One day in 1987, I walked into Audio Excellence, the high-end dealer in San Francisco.

There, I encountered with Infinity RS1bs, powered by Audio Research tube (not FET-hybrid) amplifiers.

Beautiful oak wings and 12 woofers overwhelmed me; I ordered the whole system right there.

A few weeks later my new gears were delivered.

But after the initial listening session, I was under whelmed; EMIT tweeters were too bright and harsh.

Infinity speakers took about 10 years to break in.

And when I replaced Sovtek 6550s with KT88s, which came from Czech Republic, overall sound quality was dramatically improved.

When I play analogue through Koetsu, I am in stereo Nirvana.

I think I will keep this system for another 20 years.

thank you for your response & insights regarding the RS1B.i was planning to use my ARC EC 21 as a the crossover instead of the unit supplied by infinity .you stated that a 150 hz cutoff works for your set up ,i was wondering if you chose the 6,12 18,or 24db slope? i was planning of using either my 2nd D79B for driving the woofer panels but you said it needs a powerful amp to drive the bass, do you think i can use my ARC D250 mark 2 servo or should i get a high powered solid state power amp like krell for instance? are these speakers reliable? were can i get spare EMIMS or EMIT because its no longer available from infinity.thanks for your time

i love your system i wish i could come over & listen.its good your D70 is capable of drivin the mids & high section of your RS1b. what is your cross over cut off what output tap did you use in your D70 was it the 4 ohm tap? its good also that you were able to use the koetsu directly W/ the SP8 with out utilizing a step up device ( transformer or pre-preamp).im asking this questions because i was contemplating in getting RS1Bs but am not sure if my ARC D79B can drive the mids & highs w/ adequate loudness and im currently using a koetsu rosewood sig and a ARC SP10mk2. hope you can offer me some advice thanks
