For the enjoyment of music. Lot's of changes over the years. I typically won't buy something unless I can listen to it in my system. Spending a lot of time recently searching out well recorded and interesting music via hi res downloads. I have a really nice vinyl collection mostly Jazz and pop. Digital I'm filling out my classical titles and more modern recordings. Jan '16

John, I guess I forgot to mention that I did demo a PP speaker cable that Al Porter lent me and found it somewhat (though not spectacularly) better than the Venustas I have. That surprisingly small difference could be because while the Venustas already has a very low capacitance (like the PP) it has a bit higher resistance than the PP, which is actually a 'good thing' for electrostats.
So if I were to start changing out cable (assuming I outlive this recession ;-) I guess I'd start with the tonearm and other source IC's like you did (?) or would it be better to change out the long preamp/amp XLR's? .
Sort of a rich man's "Anti-Cable"? ;-)) (just kidding!) Solid core does have its merits in systems/apps where ultra-low capacitance is key (like speaker cables for driving electrostats.) And separating the conductor runs (as in the Proteus speaker cable) is the no-brainer way to zap capacitance AND inductance. Virtual Dynamics was an early proponent of both solid core AND separated conductor runs.
Boy! You can always spot a Purist fan! Is there ANYBODY that makes fatter cables than Jim Aud!! I still want to know about the sound of the (solid core) PP phono cable v. the Dominus/Venustas designs.
Enjoy yer new stuff John! You're gonna come out of all this looking very smart -- investing in audio instead of securities ;-)
Congrats on the Wilsons! I'm particularly interested in the Provectus spkr cables because they're solid core -- supposedly a plus (very low capacitance) when used with electrostats. I'm trying to get a set to audition, so if you wouldn't mind, ask if that would be possible (while you're spending all this $$ with Purist ;-)
I thought the Venustas TA cable sounded lik a cartridge upgrade! I can't even imagine what the PP TA would do?
According to the review comparing Titan, Temper W and Audio Tekne MC-6310 (I paraphrase):
Add to background silence a host of high performance strengths and for $1000 less than the other two, you can own a cartridge that is more than competitive and arguably superior for see-into-the-soundstage transparency and resolution of event detail.
I didn't realize you'd got the Venustas phono. Was it a big improvement over the Hovland? If you're going to get a Dominus PC, definitely put it on your amp-- made a huge difference for me.
Cartridges: A friend of mine with a Helikon was deciding between a Titan and a Temper W. Went w/ the Temper W and is thrilled (I have one also.) If you're interested, I know where they're available new for a big discount.
