Description

For the enjoyment of music.  Lot's of changes over the years.  I typically won't buy something unless I can listen to it in my system.   Spending a lot of time recently searching out well recorded and interesting music via hi res downloads.   I have a really nice vinyl collection mostly Jazz and pop.  Digital I'm filling out my classical titles and more modern recordings.  Jan '16

Jfrech,
I'm very familiar with those two recordings and listen to them on a regular basis, they are very good choices for comparing formats. I agree with you, I don't find one of these formats inherently superior to the other. Depending on component, system development and other variables there's much overlap in sound quality. You have an excellent system comprised of superb components so your listening impressions aren't surprising to me. Congratulations and continue to enjoy the beauty of music with both sources.

Lloyd,
Yes I agree, something is "going on". These two products get consistently good enthusiastic comments from those who have owned or heard them demonstrated (TripointTroy it seems especially for over a 5 year period now). I get the sense that both are an asset to any system and addressing grounding is a very worthwhile endeavor and represents more than a mere tweak.

Jfrech,
You made an excellent choice, you can't own everything. There are simply some wonderful music reproducing superb quality components available in the High End audio market to select from.

Congratulations on the Robert Koda preamp, it has earned quite an esteemed reputation. I'd love to hear it compared to the stellar Absolare Passion Signature . This would be a lot of fun. You'll enjoy the koda K-10 for a lifetime.

John,
Did Andy suggest the side woofer firing inward or was it determined by simply listening? I know this can vary depending on individual room acoustics.

"Amazing speaker" I'm not surprised you feel that way.Of all the mega priced and highly touted speakers I've heard in recent years (Magico, Wilson, Evolution Acoustics, Y.G.Audio, Raidho etc.) The Rockport Altair left the most favorable impression. With the right amplifier and ancillary components it reproduces music as opposed to mere hifi. That's easier said than done. It was stunning and in a different class with the Absolare Passion amplifier.

At CES this year the very best sounding system I heard was the Absolare Passion amp and preamp with the Rockport Altairs. Without question this system was a joy to listen to. Congratulations on obtaining the Altairs.

Your results don't surprise me.The benefits of clean high quality AC power for an audio system can't be over emphasized, it makes quite a difference.

If the magnitude of change with the Typhon equals the Robert Koda preamp contribution, then the Typhon is the much better value (5k vs 30k).Unless I'm misreading you.Or does the preamp's impact on your system go further?
