this room and system is the result of 10 years in High End audio. my
system has been stable for a couple of years (except for transport and
amplifier upgrades within the same brand). the room has been in the
planning stage for about 18 months and i actually moved in a little over
a month ago.
my audio philosphy is to have the system get out
of the way of the event. i like as pure and simple a signal path as
possible and, at this point, prefer passive to active gain stages. i
love all the formats and enjoy having lot's of music.....vinyl is my
favorite but i listen to at least 60% digital. the new room really
reveals the benefits of SACD over redbook.
the system and room
truely allow the event to be recreated before me. i love the way the
speakers disappear and i am transported to another place/time.
i have choosen my cables, sources, amps, speakers to have as little of their own sound as possible.
recently, i upgraded my digtial transport from the modified Philips
SACD 1000 to the new emmlabs CDSD.....this was a significant step upward
in performance.
i have written an article in Positive Feedback regarding my room building experience.....here is a link;
new version of these cables, a big step over the amazing TRSC model i have used for 10 years. fantastic performance.
WADAX SA Reference DAC
Wadax Reference Dac----state of the art dac with 2 separate power supplies. the best dac i have heard by a good margin. below is a link to a thread about my Wadax experience.
Arya RevOpod isolation footer (32 used under the 5 Wadax Chassis).
height and tension adjustable. the Wadax dac, server, and server power supply chassis all use 8 footers, so it's critical to be able to adjust height and tension to have an even support for optimal performance. RevOpod's are unique in those attributes making them ideal for this use.

Esoteric T1 Turntable
magnetic drive/rim drive idler turntable with torque adjustment.
with the deletion of my NVS turntable, i was able to move the Taiko Tana active isolation shelf to under the Esoteric T1. this has upgraded the performance of the T1 significantly. objectively small changes, but musically quite profound up tics in realism and immersion. more nuance, greater music focus, better bass articulation.

Esoteric G1X Master Clock
Master Clock Generator for speed improvement for the T1 turntable. significant improvement in music realism.

duraluminim (A7075) body, 24 carat 'Kinpaku' Gold Leaf finish, diamond cantiliver. .3mv output, 4 ohms. these are both special versions of the Etsuro Gold.
one is mounted on the CS Port linear tracker.
one is mounted on the Primary Control FCL arm.
finest cartridge i have heard by a significant margin. WOW!
Audio Technica MC-2022 60th Anniversary cartridge

Ampex twin ATR-102----one 1/4" and one 1/2" reel to reel master recorder
hot rodded by ATR Service Inc----Andrew Kosobutsky. significant upgrades over stock. each interfacing with hot rodded Ampex MR-70 preamps. the new tape deck performance standard in my opinion.
active isolation under 5 separate components: (1) the NVS turntable, (2) the MSB dac, (3) the darTZeel preamp, (4 + 5) both darTZeel mono block amplifiers. custom modifications by Taiko Audio add a linear power supply plus panzerholtz top layer + Daiza platform to provide full frequency resonance attenuation to each platform.
Taiko Audio Daiza isolation platform--22 used in the system
Panzerholtz Platform with spiral cutouts reducing mid and high frequency resonance while retaining life and energy and not changing tonality.
22 Daiza platforms in the system of various sizes under every piece of the signal path.
Evolution Acoustics 'system' power cables
a new version of the TRPC model i used on my darTZeel 468 mono blocks for the last 10 years. a big step up.
Sablon Audio King power cord

specialized drywall with a 1/4" metal layer. used in my front sidewalls to establish proper room boundaries.
I have the older '05 Emitter 1 and running with the Zu Def speakers and LAmpozator dac leaves me with the soul of the music every listen I have with it. Changing out the Dac to SS left me cold and dry. The ASR will do that big time if your hook up the wrong component to it.
It likes Purepower and a high quality AC cable. The ASR cable is a throw away. Plug it into the wall and you end up sucking an egg.
I am sure there are ex Dart owners that have found better amps that to their ear sounds like the real things. I heard the Dart amps at Mike's place and it was the best audio system I ever heard. But the ASR or any other high end amp would have sounded great with his system.
Will be in Seattle in Aug. And hope to hear it again if Mike wills. My wife heard a cut and walked out in amazement and still talks about the sound she heard.
I heard Mike's room several years ago (Playback Design/TT/RR >DarTZeel NHB-18NS>>DarTZeel NHB-108 Stereo amp>>EE MM3s). The level of sonic realism achieved was stellar. He is to be congratulated.
I have owed several SET amps, including the Audio Note Neishu and P4 Silver, along with the M3 pre-amp and J-Spe loudspeakers. I then migrated to OTLS, first the Atmasphere S30s and then later the 75W Tenors. These amps were used to feed Zu Presence 101Db loudspeakers. Each amp had its respective strengths and weaknesses. The Tenor OTLs were the best tube amp I have owned or heard. It possessed the presence and immediacy of SETs with SS dynamics. However, living in Florida made them an untenable option due to their heat output. I was distraught about giving them up and thought there was no way in hell I would find a SS or even tube amp to match them. I was wrong. The ASR Emitter I Exclusive is like the Tenor on steroids. I have lost nothing, but that brings me to a larger issue that needs to be addressed: the lust of the flesh. It is NEVER satisfied (like Tiger Woods).
We can reach a level (Mike is there) where our gear is so spectacular that equipment changes are lateral moves at best. Like exotic cars, everyone has a different road feel, etc, but it is only DIFFERENT. Audio can become a drug for many, and we have to hit it every day. I have. Audio addiction is powerful, and we often need rehab just to break free. Tiger Woods could have any woman he wanted, but at the end of the day, his wife, the real prize, slipped away. For me personally, this hobby has eerie parallels to the TW story. A new amp comes out, and we lay with it. New wire, and we are dating it. Audio pornography knocks at our doors, and the temptation is especially strong for those with $$$$.
Think about it for a second. What are WE really looking for in this hobby? A transcendent experience? Transformation? Deliverance? What?
SET amp? I think Mike you need to build a 2nd listening room and call it the SET room and there you can build around it. In the mean time I look forward to another visit to hear one of the better audio music room I have heard with the Dart amp.
In the end the SS amp done right just gives a total big picture to the sound that SET amps can not do.
