Description

***Update 2020***
Bought a house and have a newer setup with components and room.  Took me a while to get around to updating this because I had to install all the flooring you see and paint the walls up to 19ft tall!  Because of the tall ceilings at this place so the sub is a must.

Got a DIY preamp that sounds way better than any preamps that I have had in my system (Audio Research SP9 all of the MK version, Audio Research SP14 and Threshold SL10) granted most of the preamps I have used are older.

I got rid of the oldie Audio Research dac1 and got The Schiit Bifrost.  Don't notice a big sound difference fast forwarding 30 years of technology while also going from a high end DAC to a budget priced one. But it is nice to have the modern conveniences of 24 bit and plugging the dac right into the computer without additional boxes.

Circa 2016
I've been putting this system together for years. It seems like a long time ago that I had a receiver from best buy and some little $200 Kef bookshelf speakers.  A lot of the electronics  were given to me by my father or uncle who have much better systems that me.  The speakers were my first major purchase as I've never really spent more than a few hundred dollars on any other component.  The sub was completed recently and makes the house SHAKE!  I wasn't intending on doing a sub which is why I bought the Monitor Audios since they are pretty full range.  However when I moved into this place with the vaulted ceilings and the size of this room I found myself cranking the volume until my ears hurt.  The Monitor Audios have punchy bass down to around 40 hz but this room is really tough on speakers.  I hope you enjoy looking at this system!

Components Toggle details

    • PS Audio Two-C plus
Has had all caps replaced with newer / better caps.
    • Monitor Audio Silver RX-6
Very quick, punchy detailed speakers with pristine highs and good extension on both ends.  Need a little help from electronics to bring out midrange warmth which I think I've achieved.
    • Dayton Audio Titanic mk III 15" Subwoofer
Custom built ottoman enclosing downfiring sub.  I put together the sub kit in a 5.4 cubic foot box with bass down to around 25hz.  I built it like a tank with 1.5 inch thick mdf walls and internal plywood bracing.  My wife and I picked out the fabric and upholstered it.  (WAF was key in this project not being voted down!)
    • Schiit Audio Bifrost
    24 bit Dac
    • Do it yourself Pre amp
    Built a Nelson Pass design
    • ASUS Computer International Laptop
    Using Media Monkey
