Current System. Replaced an Aragon 4004 Mk. II and Adcom GFP 750 with this pre/amp. Also added the Marantz (instead of Rotel RCD 971. Not sure if cables make sense - that goes for all. Also would like to tweak the turntable (cartridge?).
Still playing with cables. Added Zu's between CD and pre, the TruthLink's between pre and amp. Also added Kimber cable for the mp3 player.
I moved the furniture to try to get better acoustics. Not sure if better, but at least I can sit in the sweet spot with a couple of friends! Also bought a screen to block the doorway to the equip. rack and get better reflective sound off the back of the ML's.
None of this is scientific, but sure fun!
My room is 13X20 with speakers on short wall. One 4' from corner walls, the other 4' from wall, but beside open doorway. I have a dedicated 20 amp circut with a hospital grade outlet.
I like the sound, but am sure it can be improved. I listen to Albinoni - Zappa. I'll work on the pictures and update. But, "you get the picture".
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Sort of pieced together upgrades, cables, etc. not really knowing what I'm doing other than viewing threads on Audiogon and reading Stereophile, TAS, etc.
There are a lot of things you can try with varied amounts of affordability, but it depends what you are trying to accomplish. Check out the rives website, the have a lot of useful info.
I doubt that there is anything really wrong with you system. If there is an area of concern I think it is the room. No piece of equipment in the room is as important, or potentially damaging to the sound as the room.
It is very hard for a married person to get good sound in the living room. Too many compromises are required to maintain domestic harmony for the listener to benefit from the quality of the gear.
Are you an apartment dweller? Do you have a basement or attic?
No system can sound great in a compromised room. An average system can sound extremely good in a great room. That's how important the room really is, in regard to beautiful music!
