I've greatly enjoyed persuing people's Virtual Systems and looking at their cool pictures. I've had a system posted for about a year that has changed considerbaly since then, and never had any attached images. There's a good reason for that. I'm ashamed of my listening room. It's messy beyond belief, and some would consider unfit for high end audio.
Incredibly, I'm very happy with the results of my efforts. The room is approximately 12 x 14 feet, but has tons and tons of cabinets, desks and equipment. My 2-channel set up shares space with an HT seup, two computer stations, wall mounted bookcases, dressers and a bed.
I decided to post photos because some of you may want to see what that goofy Gunbei guy has at home. Well, if you look carefully you might notice a bathroom behind the left ProAc and a walk-in closet behing the right one. I have photos that better illustrate this, but I'm too shy to show them.
I promise, one day I will get this room together and pictures of a real system like the rest of you. But I've spent buying equipment and tuning my system to work in this bedroom/storage space, so I'm afraid if I clean it up the sonics will change completely.
Gunbei, just received the Golden Ref's yesterday and I'm running biwired at the moment with Neutral Ref on the upper binding posts and Golden Ref on the lower. Looks like the cable needs some settling in (even though its a used pair)as the bass was kinda muddy yesterday, much better today so I'll keep my comments till things have settled on the cables.
I've tried swapping between other makes HT, MIT, QED and finally stumbled upon first the Cardas Neutral Reference and then later the Golden Hexlink 5C (all used of course!) and I'm hooked.
I'm not sure if its because of the synergy between the Rowland/Proac or just my personal preference but the Cardas came out tops. The Neutral Reference displayed much more transparency whilst the now discontinued Golden Hexlink 5C is without a doubt warm and rich in its presentation. As I understand the Golden Ref kinda combines both characteristics and it'll be fun to have that in my rig.
Hey have you guys tried biwiring, I know its a sometimes hotly debated topic in forums all over...........but I tried hooking up both Cardas speaker cables (what the heck I had 2 sets of cables anyway) and what the heck, outstanding!! Have left as is since then.
Gunbei, The Concentra II/Proac is a heavenly match, the music that comes from the combo is rich, warm and definitely full.
What I continue to enjoy as well is the way it let's you hear so much more...the manner in which it resolves the piano information on the Norah Jones album for example, the clarity.....ahh heaven
At the moment the virus has hit me again so I am looking into tweaking around with speaker cables and maybe later power cords. Just managed to get a used pair of Cardas Golden Ref's speaker cables to replace the existing Golden Hexlink 5C, looking forward to hook them up (should get delivery hopefully tomorrow).
Hi Gunbei, How do you like to AZ speaker/interconnect with the ProAc 1SC speakers. I have the Proac Response D15 in a solid state (JR Concentra II Amp) "flavor" working with the Proacs speakers and Cardas speaker/interconnects......very musical!
