FWIW,I owned a pair of Zu Union speakers. I was interested in the non-crossover design vs. my Vandersteens.
They sounded pretty good. Close but not as good as the Vandy's using Atma-Sphere MA-1's and a MP-3.
I would think more current models would be more 'musical', but in any case, Zu's shouldn't be considered 'clinical' IMHO.(Though I might suspect some older models using ribbons might be),
