It is certainly fair to call this an ever evolving system....but it is starting to solidify as I have settled on some main component "anchor pieces" that I will be keeping for quite a while, I think: those being the B&W 802d speakers, BAT VK 51 SE tube pre, the turntable, the Spectron amp, and the PS audio phono stage, as well as the cables. The OPPO combi player will also do for some time, to play mainly SACD and DVD-A.
As I plan to listen to vinyl most with this system, the upgrades will flow to enhancing that end of the system. To improve the tonearm will be the next planned update, then different cartridges. The PS GCPH phono stage will serve well for now also.
I decided to move this system in to my theater room. That room is the best sonically in my home, well proportioned and well damped soundwise. The 802d's are now serving double duty as both HT and Stereo listening. I am using the BAT preamp in a HT bypass through my Parasound Halo C-2 controller, and is working well in this double duty method.
As the budget allows, I will replace the Spectron amp with a Mcintosh 602.
What an enjoyment it is to listen to 2 channel vinyl through this system!
Thanks for looking, and, above all, ENJOY THE MUSIC!!
Nice looking system and obviously a carefully selected one. How do you like the B&W 802d paired with the McIntosh 352? Any desire to supplement its low end with a subwoofer?
