Yep I called both the Utah and the westlake dealers. Both out of business.
Calling Canada for gear is not gunna happen. I've got a call in to the broker who operates here on the gon. Tho I really want the Vitus gear that's a level up from what he has. Fingers crossed cause I know it's some solid gear. Not giving up yet. And thanks guys for being on the gon and helping.

documentroom

Owner
I'm confused. With Vitus not having a dealers in the United states things could get bad. I've been calling everyone around in reference to this company. I would be so bummed if I bought into this line and had a unit go south. Last thing I want to do is send gear overseas to get fixed. I guess this is anouther dead end.

documentroom

Owner
That's a great article I read it the night I read your post while doing research. My choices are no going to be between the constlation mono amps I think there called the 1.0. And the Vitus. Can't wait. Going to find a Vitus desler around me. I really need theses new amps to last me a few years. Fingers crossed.

documentroom

Owner
Melbguy1 your very right. I'm in the process of getting my act together and looking for amps. Very good food for thought that was offered up. Vitus has all was blown me away at the shows. At the moment I just set up my rig in a small room and am in the deign phase of new room. Nice to be in our finale house. And just knowing I'm about to do some big construction make my stomach turn. Fun stuff. Any other suggestions from the good people on the gon helps. Budget is always and issue but there's allways ways around it if try hard enough. Thanks team.

documentroom

Owner
Sorry everyone my system is all boxed up as I made the big move to our finale beach home. Construction on the new house is almost dune and then I can start to do my build out on my new critical listening room. It's a huge room and I will need to make sure I get it right. Have not been on the gon for awhile. I'm sure new gear will be a must. Hope all is well.

Peter great to hear from ya. Had to give it a few days to let my ears adjust before I spoke on the change. We'll beyond the obvious that the s5 is full range, I notice some real changes in the upper freq. More detail and extension for sure. What caught me by surprise was that placement was much easier tho I'm still making small changes to tow in and speakers depth tho I'm real close. The s5 seams like at no mater what gain level they play about the same with the rest of the team mates. They must be more sensitive then the mini as amp is not working as hard tho could be full sound being a helping hand with that. My current room size is no problem and I bet a smaller room would be ok. This room is 19 by 16. As far as looks this is another factor to consider cause there is not a speaker more beautiful then the mini. S5 higher in fidelity easier to drive and ok to look at so there staying. When my new house and most importantly my new critical listening room is dune I will revisit but I think I found a great speaker for my rooms and my style of music I listen to. Very fun and enjoyable. Oh and there heavy. Real real heavy. If that maters. Q series I'm sure has benefits but for some reason the s5 mocks them by doing its thing so well. As they develop there sound over the next few weeks I will add input I'm sure. This new room I'm gunna build will be one of my last. After over 15 control room studios and listening rooms I'm dune. Will try to make it one of my best sounding room. Fingers crossed.

Owner
Thanks Albert gunna keep my on those polymer audio speakers tho. I heard them at a shop a few days ago. Need to get a better understanding of them before I go all out on that type of price. At the end of summer I will begin on my last room design so my system will shut down till construction is dune. Thanks s5 are fun.

documentroom

Owner
System edited: Added Magico s5 this week. Just incredible. My new room to be built at the end of the summer will need a speaker that can handle a large room. Exciting times.

documentroom

Owner
Peter you have a great eye. You read my mind when I got the rack in I started thinking about those silver q1 Magicos. Na I'm sticking with the minis for now. I've been moving gear around a bit. And trying some tweaks. I like the TT on the stand better. When on stand imaging and low end freq. tighten up. System is coming together nicely. In a few days I should have a better understanding of what my needs are. Good times.

documentroom

Owner
System edited: This week not only did I go back to the magico mini 2, I also stepped up and replaced my finite rack with two HRS SXR two tier racks in silver. This exchange has been the largest improvement I have yet seen to my system. I believe that this rack lowered the noise floor added no color and gave my system a warmth by eliminating noise and revealing a new level of musical performance.

documentroom

Owner
Peterayer I agree with you on so many levels. Your gear is One of my favorite for sure. You have dune a great job. I doubt there is any weak link in your system. I'm with you the mini has the best curves in game just makes me smile. when I walked in my room at 3 am this morn to do some listening I smiled to see my old friends in the room. Long live the magico mini. Their qualities run deep.

documentroom

Owner
Bob thanks and yes it was a different change from the direction in speakers I was going for. The change in Cabels was for the better there's some real value in the AQ Wel Cabels. There very open and have extended extension in the upper freq. with out sounding bright in my system and room with the current gear. Any with Magico I feel these loom allows speakers to open up a bit. Just bought a new beach house and will be designing a new critical listening room which will be on the large side of rooms. Will take a few months to get the new room up and running. I will address the speaker issue again as I get a clearer vision tho I just love the way the mini looks against the magico q1. Life is short in some ways. And I really missed my minis over the last few years. Having spent all night listening I can say with out a doubt that these speakers have qualities that remind me of all the years making records in my studios. Some how music is perceived in my brain easier with a mini monitor. Sounds crazy. As analog is my first choice it has been wounderful experience to build the analog rig. True joy to listen to. I highly recommend this adventure. My kids love to pull records and listen with me. their waiting for the day when I hand over my collection to them. We make notes on songs then slip them in the inner sleeve so that that they will have a reference of what I thought were important songs to listen to when I'm gone one day. I can't do this with digital and for that reason it is worth it to me. My kids are only 7 and 3 years old but they get it all ready.

Owner
System edited: Magico mini 2 are back in my room. I missed them so. There's no doubt the magico q 1 will be I my future but for now I'm excited and happy. It's like breaking up with a old girl friend and then realizing that I made a mistake. Their special for sure. They image just as I remembered. Fun stuff.

I've been watching those ref 250 for the last few days. I'm meeting with my dealer out here next week. He's gunna take my ref 150 back in trade towards the ref 250. The only thing is the ref 150 just keeps going never really runs out of steam even with the magico which is a 98 maybe a 97 efficiency. However if I get the monos then I can get a shorter run on the speakers Cabels I want and there so expensive that it make sense to get the monos so the can be closer to speaker and shorter run of speaker Cabels. How's your system sounding. And I'm getting to the point I'm going nuts to get a new set of speakers. Mine are so good but it's getting time.

documentroom

Owner
System edited: Well I've made the choice to collect more audioquest top of the line Wel signature line. And not really listening to digital anymore. There's a real enjoyment spinning records. I'm sure I will buy another top of the line dac one day but for now I'm happy with my records. Next up will be a speaker Cabel change and then ref 250 amps will be added. Followed by a new set of speakers.

Good eye. Ya, it's a pain to do it by but by loosening the threads I can move shelf up or down. I'm planning on getting a new rack one of these days. The new hrs stuff is cool. Expensive for sure. My rack that I have now was super expensive. I think it cost about 13 k when new. I've put a lot of wear and tear on it. I would rate it a 6 out of 10 if I was gunna sell it but have no boxes. But still works great and sounds amazing. Really gunna try and get a new rack by end of year. I like how the HRS racks have the silver look to em. Will match my gear. Tho the synergistic platforms make a huge difference since there active and keep the bad gremlins out of the gear there supporting. So I'm confused on what to get.

Philb7777 I originally had the Ayre mxr monos and I would ground it to the mono block by unscrewing a screw to one of xlr ins and it worked I also tried grounding it to my old phono stage and that worked. Tho when I got my audio research ref 150 I read you post and that you started a while back and that worked. Davey in your old post said to Hook up the red cable to the 8ohm right side, the yellow cable to the 8ohm left side and the black cable to either 4ohm tap. All is good now no hum feed back. Tho. I'm planning on getting the ref 250 soon and am concerned. Also my synergistic research transporter which is the central ground for my whole system I found out cant be used on speaker Cabels grounds for ther speaker cabel for the same reason. They say there is a fix in the works. Will see. I was told that the ref 2 se phono I was a bigger change to up grade then the ref 5 to the ref 5 se. The ref 5 is that good. Tho I will send mine back to have the upgrade so as to stay current. Wow. I love my rel and could not even think of not having it. Have you called audio reserch to see if they have any idea. The speak on connection is the best. Pls keep in the loop. I will think about this one. As I will be confronted with same issue soon.

documentroom

Owner
Albertporter , that's it. The Airtight pc1 supreme is making reproducing music In a different way. It's fast dynamic and its delivery is different. I've been listening for 24 hours strait it seams. There's a relaxed smooth expanded feel to it. I'm in love.

I'm having a diffuser made custom for the space covering the TV. Taken a little longer to get it made. I agree with ya. The shape of the diffuser will be round as to diffuse. Thanks for reminding me. Need it.

documentroom

Owner
Lapierre that's a good question. I don't change speakers as much as other guys. I think the reason comes from my back ground of owning recording studios. I tend to find something that works for me has the qualities I need and stick to the brand. I've been listening to the vanderstein 7 a lot and the magico big ones. I will say there's been a few I wish I could hear. I'm gunna make a list and post them hear this week. Speakers really needs to be my next move. Tho I'm moving up the line to the synergistic research speaker cabel next the top cabel soon. You got my motors turning. Hope no one blast me on the speakers I'm gunna list. Thanks for keeping in contact with me.

System edited: Today things made a major jump in sonics with the addition of the airtight pc1 supreme cartridge to my AMG tt. I'm just so happy. This has been the month in my whole life in reference to audio. Even beating out the week that I bought the huge Neve console for one of my recoding studios. I just love how this cart make s music. The audio research ref 2 se phono and now this cart. If I could describe the sound difference over the Benz lps. It's not even close. The bass and detail of notes so much more life like. Real happy. No I mean real stoked. Is a better way to describe the feeling I have.

This morn I woke up early all fired up like a kid amping out to hear music. Really folks this is what this hobby is all about. I got system warmed up and all of a sudden the music just sounded so open, warm wounderful. I could not believe how enjoyable it was. Could the new audio research ref 2 se have brought my system alive to this level that I was hearing. This got me woundering could the phono stage in our system be the most important piece of gear in our systems. My record player and signal chain sounded great before but this change really pushed the difference to a new level over digital. Not sure how others feel. But at this moment I think and believe the phono could be the most important change one can do. Now I'm gunna have to wait another hour to explain this assumption to my seven year old son when he wakes. He will need this bit of information for when he builds his system one day. Not sure if I'm ready for all his questions as to why. A budding audiophile my son is.

I highly recommend this phono section. I've dreamed about this slice of heaven for a long time. Still burning in. I'm at 200 hours and its just getting better. Along with the Benz lps and the amg Tabel things are coming together nicely.

Albert great to hear from ya. Big fan of your page. When I click on the images they pop up in correct alignment. That has happend to me before on audiogon. These are just quick shots I took the other night after getting room up. I will take more with my good camera and clean em up. I'm trying to get a new stand soon for gear. Thanks for your reply.

Over the next 12 months I'm going to concentrate on getting new speakers and phono pre amp. Oh and maybe a new dac. All is well on the western front.

documentroom

Owner
System edited: Well new room is up and running. Sounds special. Will need to keep tunning. Have not addressed standing waves which will be dealt with next. Real happy with first impressions. I have to admit. It's a more lively room sound then I've had in the past and I like it a lot. Will keep working on things then new speakers In a few months maybe.

documentroom

Owner
Lapierre great to hear from ya. I'm gunna put the new photos up when the acoustical treatment gets here. I'm freaking can't wait. Vicoustic treatments look great and I guy I used to make records with says they are very effective. Some of it is on the way from Portugal. But the rest they have in stock. Pics will be up in a week. The treatments that are on a ship will take longer but it's almost dune. I put in a cork floor. Which has good acoustical properties.

documentroom

Owner
Well today got the new wall up. I'm looking into going with and all vicoustic room for treatments. I've had enough of rpg. I've built 7 control rooms and tracking rooms and I just can't take their pricing and cost. I made the room smaller which I tend to like a lot more then a real large room. My room size now is 10 ft ceilings and 17 by 18 so should work out. My plan is to add diffusers and absorbers slowly to get a good understanding. I will have the room tuned sooner and then again later. Fun.

documentroom

Owner
Thank you doc bob it was a pleasure coming to your beautiful home and I'm star struck by the venture speakers. They are a special speaker. Hence there price. And the playback dac is to die for. Lapierre ya it was a tuff choice to let the Ayre mxr amps go. However I'm real sure that my audio research ref 150 was the right choice. Audio research has really designed some great gear. There sound has changed. Sme like the old sound with the 6550 tubes but I believe the kt 120 is a much better sound. Closer to solid state and still tube character. My amp is sounding oh so good. The detail and the bass is just as good as Ayre. I'm in the near future going to be moving in my new house and critical listening room. And will get the ref 250. Odds are I will stick to magico. I'm hooked on there speakers. Tho the vanderstein 7 are a great speaker.

System edited: Well finished construction on a new house this week. My new listening room will be a lot bigger 19 by 23 with over ten foot ceilings. I will be moving in to new room I about 3 weeks. Of course I will need to tune the room and make some changes as I go. Real excited. Might have to go big and get a new set of speakers. This week I added the new audio research ref 150. I'm a huge fan of the kt120. This amp has got punch. I'm sure I will jump to the ref 250 amps as I get my room up and running. I will add pictures soon. Gone are the Ayre mxr amps. Folks I can't say enough great things about these amps. Onward and upward.

documentroom

Owner
I agree with ya. I love the way the wood looks on the magico older line. My mini 2 s that I had we're so beautiful. I miss them a bunch.

documentroom

Owner
Yes I have listened to q 5. The new 7 from magico just had such a powerful in the correct kind of way sound. I listened to tube amps on them and solid state. I'm leaning more toward the solid state because there was so much grip down low. There's was a few notes I heard in the upper octaves that just bloomed through out the room. I could not explain just how a speaker could sound this real. The cones on the speaker seem to be made of the same material that all magico speakers are made of. Tho, I don't think any speaker in the magico line can reproduce music to the same level as these speakers. Or any speaker ever made for that matter. In all honesty I could really tell huge differences in sources. I liked how analog was reproduced through the q7. The sound stage and spectrum of depth and width was very believable. At this point ya I think with a q series speaker you are getting some of the value of a q7. However and this is a huge however I feel the jump between the q7 and and q5 or 3 is very large. Maybe there is room in there for magico to add another speaker in the line to close the gap. That q7 was bananas.

documentroom

Owner
Wow and i mean a real big wow. Today I spent a few hrs listening to the magico q 7. I have never heard this much info coming from a speaker in my life or in a past life if I had one. I would have remembered. Ok. System was clearaudio statement ear preamp and Bryston amps. The dealer sold them and is burning them in at the moment. The low end was deep and defined. The mids were to die for and the top end just ____. I don't have words for it. Cause well I've never heard anything like it. I'm a fan of this company that for sure but this was outrageous. Every human being on earth needs to hear them.

Bob just sent you and email. Hope all is well.

System edited: It was not as easy but I let go of all my Tara labs Cabels and have moved on to synergistic research. Tara labs has fantastic products no doubt however I really like the direction of the current wire. Both company's are top wire that's for sure. I'm really enjoying the imaging and depth of SR wire.

documentroom

Owner
All power Cabels are copper tungsten silver. And ic and speaker. There's real value in this line. The detail and depth that these Cabels bring is astonishing. Highly recommend. And there service is top notch. I've called the company directly with questions.

System edited: Well after many years of using all Tara labs top cebels I've moved on to synergistic research element CTS speaker and ic and pc Cabels. Thing sounding good. Still breaking in however there's no buyers remorse. This company is cutting edge.i will continue to burn them in and see how the sound changes. I'm a happy camper. Thanks SR for pushing the envelope with wire.

documentroom

Owner
Lapierre. Funny ya should ask about the g1. Last night I got a bunch of new power Cabels from synergistic research element top of the line cts model Cabels I put one pc to the rel and hooked it up to the synergistic research powercell and wow. Bass is a lot deeper. A lot going on because I also am now not using any Tara labs omega gold ic or speaker Cabels or power cabels. I switch over to SR Cabels completely. I'm happy. As these Cabels break in I will write more about them. I've got to say. I'm not missing the Tara Cabels. There just to expensive and I think the tech is old. SR is bright company. There gear is half the cost and brings a lot to the table.

documentroom

Owner
That cool. I'm sure we did. I will send ya some photos of my studios I had. My email is [email protected]. Reply and I will shoot them over. I had at one time the hottest records going down. My rooms were real cool. I miss them every day.

documentroom

Owner
Well that a good question. Sam. No I don't think I the studio we did. In my mix room studio we did iron madden and journey I think all to surround sound mix. With the Ssl console very expensive console. Under a million bucks. But I don't think at any time we mixed it to dsd. Maybe my Dcs Scarlatti stack up sampled that way. I'm stumped. At times I'm ready to give up on digital and grab a studer and bounce every song I got to it and call it a day. Tho my new turn Tabel the amg sounds pretty dam good. Sorry wish I could be more help.

documentroom

Owner
That would be great. Lets hook up. Will email ya in minute.

documentroom

Owner
Hi MRIbob, yep live in malibu. I've learned some great lesions with trying so much beautiful gear. First yes the Dcs stack was amazing tho digital has came long way over the years. There are a few dacs that are incredible at a much lower cost. The ps audio dac is one of them. Maybe this year I will buy the stahl tech and be dune with buying dacs. Secondly the synergistic research base just blew me away last night. I have been using it under my Mac mini and hard drive made a big difference in staging and detail. Blacker back grounds. But I tried it under my audio research ref 5 last night and wow, playing records was unreal. How could this be. I mean real definition in the notes music seamed more stable. And this was with the least expensive platform. So I put it back under my Mac mini and hard drive but I'm gunna have to buy the larger one for my ref 5 pre. Now I'm convinced that its doing what SR says it does. Synergistic research is a company to watch. There Cabels the new element series are incredible and the price is not super expensive. I'm choosing them over buying Tara labs top interconnects. There that good.
Lastly the bsg this device is very interesting. It makes music seam bigger, wider and a bit taller. Speakers need to be moved closer so image does not lose definition. I have two of them. One was sold this week. My other bsg is not in my system at the moment I'm gunna spend some time with out and then through it back in.

With the addition of my new AMG v12 tt analog bliss has arrived. I've had many tt in the past however this one will stand the test of time I'm sure of it. My records are coming to life like never before. With the help of course of my Benz LPs cart. In the near future I will be saving every penny for the audio research ref 2 or ref 2 se phono. I can honestly say that analog wins the battle over digital at least with me. Now I don't say this with out having thought it out completely. Here's my reasoning. 12 years of making or being apart of making records some good some great and some well not so great. When we went to tape it sounded insanely good, however once we started going to all digital or Pro Tools I knew we had sold our soles to the devil because if ya haven't edited drums ya just don't know how hard it is to make a record. Pro Tools made the whole process more efficient. So we kind of can blame drums for the recording process being changed from tape to digital. Secondly now I'm not knocking anyone's gear. I owned the the DCS Scarlatti stack for some time. And I got to say it was the very best I have ever heard. Tho there was I can't remember the name a converter brought into my studio one day by a producer I'm having trouble with which session it was on I think it was a RR session anyways it was bananas good. Not till I bought the DCS had I heard digital sound this great. To make a long story longer a lot of dacs and A toD converters came through my studios. I owned 6 high end and at one time had 4 running at the same time. What I noticed was engineers and producers were trying to overcome the limitations and make their productions sound a bit more organic. As opposed to using the converters in Pro Tools rigs. Digital won the battle hence almost all records are made with Pro tools at least at some point in the recording process. Smaller budgets and ease of use leads to path of last resitence. Now in my critical listening room where I'm king of the castle at least till my wife come in yelling at me to help with kids, I in the end choose analog. I will always have dacs in my system. And I think digitalis does sound really good. I can sit down and be blown away by the dynamics and all qualities that make digital engaging. But some how when I put records on and go through all the process of playing records with a top record player the music is well music. Analog sounds more full more round more detailed more alive. Notes become more interesting. More there in some way. Now pls forgive me for the run ons and comma splices and fragments. This is a hard topic for me to explain. Music and the process of how music should sound and be played is difficult and I've spent my whole life around it. Atleast 40 years anyways. I hope I get another 40 to try and figure it all out. My name is JT and I'm addicted to analog......

Jazzdrumer. I've moved on from the 1.7. Waiting for the 20.7 to come to town. I built a new room much much bigger. Perfect for the 20.7. Which I'm planning on getting next year.

System edited: New Tabel has arrived. The AMG v12 is here going through all the set up and dialing it in. New phono cabel is on its way. Early thoughts are that this tt is the real deal. I'm very convinced after having one of the best dac s in the world Dcs that this Tabel has brought me closer to music. Analog really has come a long way and it wins me over. Long live the record player. Will be adding more info on tt as it burns in.

System edited: Some new gear here and there but what a difference a new room makes. I took my knowledge of having designed and built over 14 top recording studios to making a listen back room. I'm real happy and the quality of the outcome could not be better. Will post new pics soon.

System edited: Ive been trying lots of dacs and cd players over the last month an have chosen the new dcs scarlatti rack. Im using vinale mostly however, the dcs has made a big impression on me. Used with usb an upsampled to 24/176 has given me a very detailed an true soundstage. My system is getting to be the real deal.

System edited: With the new EAR 890 tube amps pushing the Magico Mini's Im getting very close to a system that work together in a beautiful way. I will be adding info on the new AudioMachina speakers that I took delivery of last week. They will be used in my Mix room studio as Mains. I was taken back by the many postive responses top mixers have been giving me all week. Big records will be made on these speakers with confidence.
