Not only you have a great system but you also have very low noise floor. Alto Utopia BE are very good, I have heard them at many shows. With them you can hear the hiss that other speakers will totally mask.
Hi Haroon, I never thought I should hear hiss from the speakers. I just tried for you and heard almost nothing. Alto has an efficient tweeter and there is a little hiss, but I cannot hear anything from 1 meter distance. I only turned on pre and power amps. I do not use any sort of power conditioning.
Can you write about the static noise floor of Krell FPB-700cx? If only the Krell FPB-700cx is turned on, how much hiss you hear from speaker when you put your ear to tweeter?
I think you will enjoy the Transparents. The Ultras are a little laid back which may be what you're looking for. They are full bodied with nice texture, authority and good inner detail - very musical. As you move up their line, the darkish quality goes away and the cables begin to open up.
I found room treatments and cables helped to tame the agressiveness of my Mezzos. Have your tried Transparent or MIT cables - probably a good match for the Altos.
Hi Mikeduke, When I bought the Alto's the 1037 was not available. I auditioned 1037 at several locations. I think this one has the best price/performance ratio in JM Lab range. I can honestly say that there is not to much difference between Alto and 1037. My listening room is well damped but it is still very hard to compensate the forwardness of the berrylium tweeter. Anyway the definition of the berrylium is super.
Nice setup. I have always liked the altos. I have the 1027Be's myself. CD7. Nice :). I have heard the Alto's in a few different systems. All of JM Labs speakers are sensitive to the surrounding equipment. It is no surprise that you were able to fix the issue with different cables. Again, great looking setup.
Hi Greggare, I upgraded to Alto's about 8 months ago. I used to have a pair of AudioPhysic Avanti 3's. The old speakers were actually more musical but with some limitations. I usually listen to the music at high volumes. This was the main reason I bought JM Lab. Alto is a great choice for definition of the whole frequency range. The only problem I am encountering is the Berrilium tweeter. I think it is too forward sounding unit. I compansated the problem later with an old speaker cable named Esoteric Research.
