I have to put new pictures up one day .These are outdated and incomplete. My digital camera has decided to call it quits,,pics will have to wait.If its not one ting, its an udda!
Ray, I'm glad to hear you moved away from the dark side ;) Video and HQ 2 channel audio don't live together well in the same room. Same house maybe... I was at Lloyd Walker's place today. Watching the build process on my Proscenium Gold Signature turntable. Lloyd is not only an engineering genius, he is one hell of a craftsman as well. Thanks for the invite. a buddy of mine has been bugging me to go down there with him for a little salt water fly fishing. If that happens and I find myself looking for an audio fix, maybe we can hook up...
Ray- You are really making a lot of changes! they all seem to be moving things in a positive direction. would love to get together with you to listen to some tunes on yer rig. Keep us posted...
Hey Ray- How is everything? The signature JMW arm is probably one of the best upgrades you can do for under 1000.00. It adds so much more texture and nueance to the music. Much more low end authority as well. If you add the weight to the headshell you'll have no trouble with the ZYX. I should have checked your thread sooner. Had I known you were interested in a 17D, I know where you could pick one up with less than 30 hours on it for a nice price ;)
No flies on the ZYX though... VPI loves that cart and many dealers package it with the JMW 9 arm.
Keep us up to date on your impressions as you break it in.
How are you Ray? How's that Chardonnay treating you? I know you are thinking about speakers at the moment, but have you given any thought to kickin' it up a notch on the Scout with the JMW Signature arm? Early reports are that it is a SUBSTANTIAL upgrade, with a lot more flexibility in cartridge choice too. BTW are you using a Moray James PC on your Supratek? If so, how do you like it?
Ray, your setup just keeps getting better. I notice that you are using the Moray James PC. I assume it's on the Supratek, no? How does one find the manufacturer to purchase these? I understand they work very well with Mick's pre-amps. Keep up the good work....
Ray, Looks really good to me! Nice selection of gear. How's the Supratek treating you? Have you been doing any tube rolling? Thus far, I have swapped out the EH 6SN7's for a pair of NOS RCA gray glass 6SN7 and keep trying Amperex 6922 Bugle Boys in the phono stage. Depending on which cart I am using: Shelter 501 II seems to like the amperex better than the Dynavector 17D does.
Just send Mick an email telling him what you are interested in doing. He generally takes a down payment (payable via PayPal) with the balance due when he ships your order. Insist that he include your SS number on the customs paperwork or your unit will languish in Customs in Anchorage, AK while awaiting clearance. FedEx will send you a duty and customs invoice within about 3 weeks after your unit arrives. Shipping from Australia is about 130.00 - 150.00 with another 150.00 for customs.
The Supratek preamps don't really add or detract in and of themselves. They can be ruthlessly revealing of what is upstream of them however. You are in a good position with your vinyl front end to take advantage of the magic in those grooves via a Supratek preamp. try and stretch your budget if possible and go for a Chenin in order to get the world class phono stage that Mick builds. If you are planning to go this route, I would sit still on the IC swap until you have had a chance to live with the Supratek sound for a while. Too many changes all at once can confuse your ears about what is causing what.....
Hi Ray, Average wait time for one of Mick's preamps is around three to four months, unless you are having some custom work done. I waited eight months, and even at that it has been more than worth it. Not only is it audio jewlery, it is audio bliss.
Hi again Ray. I have a hot tip for you. If you like Signal Cable's analogue 2 ICs, give the new Silver Resolutions a try on your Scout. I am currently using a pair between my Scoutmaster and the phono stage on the Supratek Chenin. Really a very sweet cable. Little more $$$ the Analogue 2, but quite a bit better. I love the 2 myself, but I can't believe how great the Silver is.
Hi Ray. Man you are really going to town. What did you construct your room treatments out of? What positions in the room are they located? Glad to hear that they are working out. Acoustic treatment properly applied is probably the most cost effective system upgrade a person can do IMHO. The room is just as much a system component as any other piece of gear. Nice work! Can you get some pics up?
Hey Ray, Nice work! Looks like you are putting together a nice setup. I think you will get a lot of great years with the Scout TT. VPI has done a great job with it and it has a very nice upgrade path as well. Enjoy!
