Not a bad little set-up. The bass this thing produces is pretty astounding with the speaks hanging in the corners of the garage, but fortunately, the CT-17 has tone controls so I can turn the bass down. This is a finished three car garage and I enjoy spinning vinyl and I do actually sit out there in the "sweet spot" with a cool beverage and listen to music. One nice feature is less than stellar recordings are more tolerable on this rig than my main rig.

Carver CT-17
This was the preamp I used for years in my main rig. Couldn't see selling it as it's a pretty good unit capable of five channel surround (who cares) and has "sonic holography"

Duke58, the speakers are simply hanging from lag (wood thread) hooks screwed into the floor joists. I then drilled the speakers, in the appropriate location for proper angle, and inserted U bolts w/chain and secured with nuts.
Thanks guys, Three pairs of 500's, wow!@#$%&! I also have Alpha's in my weight room, and ran Stratus Golds (not i's) for 9 years as my main speakers. The Gold's are great rock 'n roll speakers especially for the money.
Whell, tried two different cart's with the CT-17. The AT and Shure M97xE (which I still have), they both sounded like ass with CT-17's phono section. Threw in a NAD PP-2, and whala! Acceptable sound quality. I have since added a DB Systems DB-8 MM phono pre per another Agon members' suggestion. I've done some a-b'ing between these two pre's on this system, but I just can't hear much of a difference between them. I'm thinking this system may not be resolving enough, so I plan to bring the tt in the house and try another a-b session on my main rig. Then perhaps I can decide between them. For now, the DB-8 remains installed. Also, I've never cleaned a single connection on this system, even though it is in a somewhat harsh enviorment. This is prolly not helping matters. And I've only got one decent set of ic's on this rig. Another thing not helping my cause. But the bottom line is, I couldn't have lived with a tt setup using the CT-17's phono section.
System edited: Recently replaced my 25 year old Yamaha P-200 with the Technics SL-1210 and AT-440MLa cart. At first I put a Shure M97xE on it, but didn't care for it. For basically the same money, I prefer the AT. But something was still missing. I now know that the phono section in the Carver CT-17 sucks, as I threw a NAD PP-2 on it. It is now sounding quite good and has got my wheels spinning as I rediscover vinyl. So, I may move up to a better phono pre sooner rather than later.
