This is my current real 2 channel system and I am super happy with it. The heart of it all is the 44 year old H H Scott 222(A) integrated amp I bought right here on Audiogon for $275. I love love love this thing to death and it is killing any other new amps I have heard for up to $1500. I just got the Omega speakers from Louis at Omega. They are wonderful and a great compliment to the Scott. My sources are just fine as are my interconnects, but I really need to do something about speaker cables and speaker stands. Any opinions or advice on any of this, please feel free to chime in. However, I must warn you, I have gotten a little too obsessed with this whole audio thing, but I now realize how to spend much less for much more. I am finally happy with MUSIC and this system lets me concentrate on nothing else.
I dig your Scott-222 integrated tube amplifier. It would be well worth it to put together a complete NOS tube compliment for the pre/power stage and replace those electro Harmonix and whatever other pre/power tubes that you have plugged into that wonderful unit. those replacement tubes would not be that expensive and would be most certainly well worth the added cost.
Not sure if you check this thread too often but here goes..
Congrats on a well put together and affordable system.
I noticed your comments about the Scotts. I actually sold my Primaluna and replaced it with a Scott LK-48, also redone by Ryan at Hot Glass Audio. Both are fine amps but there's a certain magic with the Scott that the brighter Primaluna didn't have.
I'm wondering if you still have the Scott and are still enjoying it?
Btw, I live near Ryan and I'll be going down to his place to hear his all scratch built LK-48 in a custom chassis (all chrome with exposed tubes). Cheers.
One can almost hear the quickness (of the pace) and sheer presence (of the performers) by "just looking" at the pictures (of this outstanding assembly of equipment). Your system speaks (quite literally) volumes (if you desire) about spending too much without reasonable gain. Good work w/ good sound as a reward. Don't get much better. Nice eye candy as well !
Wow, what a gorgeous integrated amp. Did you have the top painted or is that a factory job? I have been considering a Salamander stand also and would like to hear your thoughts on owning yours.
System edited: Well, I have new speaker cables, new speaker stands and a few new tubes, and I could not be happier. I know I am not in the stratosphere in audiophile land, but for 3500.00 or so, I have not heard better than what I have, though I am certain the Scott amp and Omega speakers are the key here. If only I had known more, I would probably have a different CD player right now, but the Rotel is okay.
