Hi guys,i'm very new to this site and i'm here to simply learn and hope to stick around for quite a while.I've been into Hifi for the last 10 years but nothing serious until of lately when i really invested some time and effort to assemble a decent system.Having said that, all my components were bought used either from the local market or from overseas.BTW,i'm from Singapore and how envious i'm of you guys who can have big dedicated rooms for Hifi whereas mine measures only 15ft by 10ft. My apology if this intro sounds boring...anyway, your advice and constructive criticism is greatly appreciated.Looking forward to hearing from you. Cheers
I have upgraded my aging Philips 850Mk2 CDP to a new Audiolab 8000CD CDP.
N. E. W. P-3 tube preamp
Pretty happy with this preamp.Currently trying out different 12au7 and 12bh7 tubes.I swap the original Cary Design 12au7 and RSD 12bh7 with Jan Philips 5814A/12au7 NOS and Hytron 12bh7 NOS.I feel the bass has tone down and its overly smooth on some materials but soundstage has gone wider.
AVI S2000MM mono block
British solid state mono block rated at 150w/ch.Funny thing is that its never run hot at all. Bought it from ebay UK.
Paradigm Studio-100 v2 floorstander
Huge and heavy speaker weighs 50kg each. Some people say its overkilled in my room. But honestly i don't feel its boomy..
System edited: Hi,replaced my aging Belgian made Philips 850Mk2 cdp with a newly designed new Audiolab 8000CD cdp. Also changed my JPS Ultra Conductor speaker cables to LAT int. SS 1000D speaker cables. The pair of Jan Philips 5814A 12au7 were then swap with a pair of Amperex Bugle Boy 12au7.
Hi Gsselling, thanks for your compliment but i have to admit i can't hold a candle to yours.I'm embarassed to say mine are Jap late 70's and early 80's Tokai Silver Star Strat copies both maple and rosewood respectively. The Tele is a early 90's Schecter which i believed built in japan also.A quilted maple top Valley Arts custom pro which is the only US guitar.A 80's Yamaha classical guitar and a brandless parlor acoustic made by me when i attended a guitar making course. And also a RIchard custom Canadian electric and a Adamas acoustic electric which are in the storeroom and not shown. Having said that i do use to own a Fender Strat 57 reissue,a Gibson Standard,a Tom Anderson Cobra and a few Zion electrics and a Rivera amp but not anymore...
System edited: Currently somebody is selling his NAD S500 CDP silver series. As i'm going to upgrade my CDP,do you think this is a wise choice? I was told NAD S500 is smooth and polite which i'm not really in favour as my current system is warm sounding suprisingly with Paradigm speakers.I need more sparkle more cut through but not forward sounding.Any advice and comment?
System edited: Any suggestion on a new CDP? I like to listen to intrumental pieces; mainly guitar base jazz and blues stuff and some vocals. Yellowjackets,Larry Carlton,Robben Ford just to name a few....
