This is my main system, were I listen mostly to vinyls,fm radio and some digital files. I have the choice of two very different sounding turntables, depending on how I wish to listen to my records. The loudspeakers are the Yamaha ns-690 and have restored with new caps, internal wire is kimber cables. They have been tuned exactly for my room with metal oxide resistors instead of the controls. The room treaments are a personal design that use a lot of common sense to make a room that is not to live and not to dead. Feel free to leave any comments or ask questions. JD

There is also a sheet of butyl rubber that goes between the platter of your turntable and the mj-12,it is a must have it is call; Br-one. And it comes with a stroboscope and protractor. Dont forget that all these do work together and that the oyaide puck just have the rigth amount of weigtt
i Icorem, to answer your question, the first thing you need to know is how the Oyaide mat and puck are working; the outside is thicker by 2mm than the center creating a one degree angle,so when you put the record it flatten it in a very clever way, making the record perfectly in contact with the mat. You will now need to compensate the azimuth of the headshell by one degree assuming that you can do that (not for Rega user..)It is 5mm tick so maybe you will need to adjust vta to For the sound it impossible to not ear the difference! there is frankly no turning back, honestly the first time i hade it i didnt even bother to removed it to see if there was a change... Later i did try it on other tables, belt drive ect, and generally speaking it works wonder with direct drive turntables, the sound become razor sharp with plenty of detail and speed but in a very controlled way, bass go deeper with more control, higs now fly higher and midrange is never shouty, it is simple when it sound rigth one reconize it straith away after 3 notes thats exatly the case with the Oyaide stuff. I have try the sounddeadsteel mat to but it is not as good. The Oyaide is the best mat in the world. expensive but...really nice to look at to! hope it answer some of yours questions JD
The bamboo for the speakers was partly precut, in fact those are stairs! an quite expensive to 36$ each, but there strait the an impeccable neutral tone and the never going to bent in any way,for the parts i had to cut i used a 140 dents blade for fine wood working, and beware ! bamboo have a tendency to go on flame!
no i didnt use any engeneer to help me in the room treament. I did everything myself step by step by mixing differents elements; curtains, cushions, furniture with records, carpet and the panels are made diffusing wood and sound dampening foam.I ended with a decend not to reverb room ,not to dead to. When i did the loudspeakers it was clear already to me that i will be using the long wall for listening and that the speakers will be quite close (2.5 meters)that is why the super tweeter is back firering over 10000hz,as you can seethere is some cushion on the wall exactly for that to prevent over refletion. My budjet was quite limited but i do rally like he results Thanks JD
Looks like a pretty cool, and pretty trick, system. Very Nice! I imagine maybe you think like me, make every buck count and get all your gear and room working on all levels as well as possible.
I've been thinking along the lines of building my own enclosures out of 3/4" bamboo as you've done. Was the bamboo pre-cut for you?? I've heard it can be difficult to cut without splintering a bit. If you cut it yourself, was it diffucult in that regard for you...did you take any special precautions? Thanks. Regards.
PS I've had Luxman gear in the past and was very pleased with it. I bet that amp sounds sweet!
Wow! Impressive! How did you go about determining the kind, placement, etc of the room treatments? did you do it yourself, or work with engineer? Hoping the former, and you could provide some 'getting started' tips! Thanks and enjoy your impressive system!
