This is my very modest HT system. I get upgrade-itis about every five years or so. I've completely changed my system from interconnects to speakers to electronics in 2004. I never have a lot of money for my theatre, so most pieces are used and hopefully a good bang for the buck purchase.
As always, I'm open to thoughts, suggestions, and comments.
System edited: Added a small tube and amp. and headphones for late night listening. Additionaly, my choice of music isn't appreciated by all family members so now I can listen to what I want when I want.
System edited: Upgraded the sub to a SVS PC12-NSD. Still needs some work dialing it in but I'm liking what I'm hearing so far. My last couple of subs have been a bit boomy for HT and flabby for music. It's a different listening experience to hear some nice clean, tight bass.
System edited: Sold the NHT Super Center and purchased PSB Stratus C6 center speaker. Again, this is for my eventual move to a pair of PSB Stratus Gold's or Silver's towers up front.
System edited: The TV was added in early 2007. Due to size contraints in the Armoire, this is the biggest flat panel I could fit. It does 1080i which is good enough...for now.
I've never liked your sub. It doesn't integrate well, and it sounds flabby. I think you should bite the bullet and buy some main speakers that have enough bass in and of themselves. Something like the PSB Stratus Silver. Upscale Audio sells em in piano black for 1400. I've heard these speakers and they're very, very nice. I don't think you'd be happy for very long w/ the super zeros as your mains. Sure they image like crazy, but that's about it. I know you, you're an unreformed headbanger (despite all those Diana Krall cds you own). You need slam, dammit. Buy the PSBs, move the super twos and the sub into the "pool room," and be done with speaker upgrades for a long, long time (well, maybe a new center channel at some point).
Before the Super Two's I was using another pair of Super Zero Xu's as the fronts (which have since been installed in the pool room using the 2803's zone 2). While the Super Two's don't image nearly as well, they throw out much richer, fuller sounding soundstage.
I still have the stands for the Zero's. Perhaps I need to try the Super Two's in the pool room (where the extra bass would be nice) and bring the zero's upstairs again for another listen.
Your NHT "Super" loudspeakers are not only a great buy, but truly excellent sounding--especially the much-heralded Super Zero. I owned a pair of Super Zeros for nine years--I only recently replaced them with Triangle Titus 202's.
My suggestion may sound a bit odd at first, but I bet you'll like the results:
Make the Super Zeros your two main front speakers. Use bass management on the Denon AVR to route both the sub-80Hz bass frequencies and the LFE channel to the SW2pi. Now, move the Super Two's to the rear surround location.
I'm not kidding--try it out for kicks and I bet you'll like it. The Super Zeros are just too darn good to be relegated for surround--and would provide truly seamless sound with the Super Center.
