Description

My family and I are moving into a new home, so its time to start fresh.

Although the components in this system are not new, the room is. The room its moving into is about 4 times larger than what it used to be in(!). Its approx. 18' across the front of the room and about 30' to the back of the kitchen (a great room concept). 9 foot ceilings.

The idea of this system is to make it easy to use for not only my wife and kids, but guests as well. We often entertain, so the goal is getting a system built that is both easy to use and fun to listen to.

Components Toggle details

    • Intel NUC i3 with 8GB RAM
PC-based music server, mostly Tidal streaming
    • Schiit Audio Modi
    Async USB DAC
    • Schiit Audio Wyrd
    De-crapifier tweak (yes, it works)
    • Audio Research DSI-200
    200 x 2 Class D integrated amp
    • Schiit Aduio Modi Uber 2 w/ upgraded PS
Headphone/pre amp. Sounds fantastic for the money. I've added an upgraded power supply to the Schiit Audio headphone/pre amp. Although I had to wait 50 days for it to arrive, the Welborne Labs AC-AC power supply made a positive difference in the sound quality of the headphone amp.
    • DIY heavyweight NA
I built a few weighted blocks modeled off an article I recently read. The blocks are approx. 3" x 2" x 2" and made of light wood (similar to balsa) purchased at my local craft store. I drilled a 3/8" or so hole in the bottom of the block, sanded, and stained it with ebony/black wood stain. After the two coats, I filled the block with steel BB's and glued a thin rubbery-type felt to the bottom with some spray glue. If I were to redo them, I'd probably add some kind of matte spray coating on top to protect them finish. Otherwise, the stain has done well over repeated moves and handling.
    • Linn Akurate DS
Network streamer with Dynamik power supply
    • Transparent Audio Powerlink MM2
    From wall to Power Isolator
    • Transparent Audio Powerlink Reference
x2; from Power Isolater to Linn DS and integrated amp
    • Transparent Audio Power Isolator Reference
Powers up the system and removes noise. Well worth the investment.

System edited: Updated pics... new DIY heavyweights for the DS and power filter. Needed two for the Transparent top, couldn't get the ring out of the metal with just one. Managed to find the sweet spot for the DS top plate. Next upgrade will be dedicated power (20 amp) oulets, one to each side of the fireplace.

The system is totally transparent... nearly invisible LOL.

We're moving in June 3, so sometime after that I'll start putting it back together.
