Love your Mac gear and the racks. They look some well made. I only wish I had lp storage so nicely done. Nice system, looks like a very enjoyable system to listen too.
Those are GREAT speaker but I would do instead of buying new ones is perhaps moving them away from that shelf to avoid reflections. Just pulling them out into the room 2 feet away from the shelf would add a lot more soundstage depth? Just a thought...but you have a truly beautiful system Bld63.
Thanks for the reply! I used to work as a welder in a machine shop so I could build something like that myself but I no longer have access to a machine shop.
There is a fabrication shop in my town. I spoke with the owner about building a rack system for me. He wanted $1200 - $1500 for the frame. I would have to buy the shelving elsewhere.
Thanks Dave. Racks are homemade. I am in the steel fabrication business and had the guys in the shop build them a feww years ago when things were slow.
System edited: Upgraded television, main cartridge from helikon to skala, and added Tyler speakers during 2007. Will update system pictures eventually.
I'm still breaking in the Blackbird but like it so far. I've had the Grado for a couple of years, used it on my other table, and just installed it on the spare arm wand this week. Have only had a chance to make a very quick comparison, but the Blackbird seems to be a little more dynamic and possibly tracks a touch better. It is as good or better than the Grado with surface noise. I owned a Blue Point Special a few years ago (did not care for it) and was a little apprehensive about the Blackbird. Fortunately it is nothing like the old BPS. I really like the Grado but the Blackbird may be in the pole position right now. Don't know if this is any help since I am not familiar with the Dynavector just thought I'd share my experiences.
The racks are sort of home made. I own a small steel fabrication business and had the shop guys make and paint the frames during a slow period a couple of winters ago. I purchased some oak veneered plywood and trim from a local lumber yard and clear sealed it for the tops and shelves. Overall I'd say the project ended up costing me quite a bit more than commercially available pieces would have. Oh well live and learn. I'll probably make another album rack anyway.
Great looking system. How do you like the Sumiko Blackbird? I'm currently using a VPI Aries Black Knight (pretty similar to Scoutmaster) with a Dynavector Karat 17D2, and have been pleased with the results.
Also, who is the manufacturer of your equipment rack and LP shelves?
Thanks for the offer of expert analysis Albert, but I fear shipping costs may be prohibative. Maybe I just need to retitle the image 'Stuff I Like'. Anyway I always enjoy looking at virtual systems that include pictures of software & dogs for some reason. So the next update will need some editing to the images.
