Description

System is used in the living room as a home theater and will playback demanding movies cleanly at very high SPL.

The front wall has four large bass panel traps and three smaller mid-treble traps. No flutter echo or upper bass bloom. :)

Works very nicely for jazz and instrumental music as well.

Not so good with Rock; not enough midbass oomph with legacy recordings.

My favorite component is the Adcom GFA 5800 Amplifier.

I've had this amp for over ten years and wouldn't trade it for anything. (well, maybe a big Levinson or Krell)

My least favorite is the old Marantz DVD 6200 player; too finicky with media burned on computer and it tends to pause noticeably during DVD layer changes. I'm definitely trading in this player for a Denon that can read SACD.

I'm also tempted to trade in the speakers and sub(which I'm fairly satisfied with) for a pair of the new B&W N802D.

Thanks, Chadnliz.
Yeah, I love that amplifier, but it sucks in tons of dust and dog hair, so I have to clean it out periodically. Surprisingly, the two small internal fans are still working nicely after 10 years! I wish the fans in my computers would last that long.
The treatments are Ethan Winer bass traps I built from detailed instructions posted on the net.

cheers

Thanks for the compliment on my setup. =P
I agree (and so do most of my guests) that the CDM9 is an excellent HT speaker.
Heh, I just want the new "D" tweeter, but they have also developed a completely new woofer.

My wife actually wouldn't let me buy the N802 a few years ago; she thought they looked too weird. The CDM9 is sorta weird looking too, so maybe she'll eventually come around.
