System edited: It seems as though the trusty Nakamichi has quit on me. I have not been able to the CDP to accept a disc. I have tried several and it spits them back out. I wonder if it's a commentary on my music. Any suggestions in the $200-$500 range?
I wish I could be more helpful with that one. I have a couple of XRCD's. They are usable on a redbook only CDP, but are of higher quality than standard redbook. Maybe they are similar to the CBS 'super bit mapping' CD's but I'm not sure.
I have had better systems. The speakers are tiny, but for the room in which they sit, they're probably a good match. Tubes are kinda new to me. I had them a long time ago.
It isn't a great system, but I've heard worse. I've probably owned worse!
I bought a box set of "25 Jazz Greats" a few years ago and have heard a number of things I really like. The usual suspects are all there, but I also got a chance to hear Teddy Wilson, Fletcher Henderson, and Bix Beiderbecke. SInce then I've bought some Louis Armstrong and others. I realy don't know that much about the people, I just like the music.
Ray I have all kinds of different stuff. Lately I've been on somewhat of a Pink Floyd kick. I have some classic rock, a tiny bit of country, and some Jazz.
I liked Ultravox in the 80's and still buy Midge Ure's stuff. That's not much of an answer, but it's all I got.
It doesn't really sound that bad. I have had better stuff inthe past, and in better rooms.
The room I have it in is tiny, and with the little bit of furniture I do have there really isn't a good place to sit, but I still have it on most of the time.
System edited: Maybe it's not the worst on AudiogoN anymore. The integrated amp is a lot better than the Sherwood receiver! The purist sounds better than the patchcords I had before.
