I guess I'm in my third year now working to put together a high end system. I am finally at a point of being extremely happy with the choices I've made and reference quality I've achieved. Changes over time have been numerous but with a lot of diligent reading of various user threads and talking with other audio friends, I believe the trek has been well worth it and definitely a fun one! I'm still tweaking a bit but think I'm at the end of the big changes for awhile. And it sure sounds good! Thanks for all the help! (updated comments 6/21/04)

Wendy - I want to publically thank you for all the amazingly helpful input you have (very freely) given me. I have wholeheartedly agreed with you observations, and my system is sounding better than ever! I bet yours is breathtaking!
Lovely system! I am soon to recevive shipment of a Reimyo CDP777, and have a quick question for you. What experienced did you have with power conditioners. I see you have the Reimyo power cond. which you plug the amp and preamp into - what about the CDP? Should i be looking at power conditioners for that component? Thanks, Art
Peterh: I've owned the Talon Khorus X and now the Firebird Diamond. I have not tried the latest Transparent cables but it was generally known in Talon circles that the Transparent cabling do not match well with their speakers. In fact, I had an entire system of Transparent cables and changed it all out once I bought Talon speakers as it sounded horrible. I encourage you to compare the Stage III vacuum reference cables to the Transparent mm if you have not. I would wager they give your cables a good run for their money.
I am new to Audiogon but I have browsed admiringly at many of the fabulous systems posted, especially yours. It is, well, astonishing. I am considering some cable upgrades and liked your comments about the Supra Sword speaker cable. Also the Harmonix interconnect, but this is likely in the financial ionosphere for me.
Given the system dependence of cables, do you think the Supra Sword would be a good choice?
Do you recommend bi-wiring them?
Also my physical layout requires a balance XLR 4-meter inter-connect. I am of the understanding that the inter-connect is sonically more important than the speaker cable. Is this true?
One last question. I am building a small home theatre downstairs in an already finished area. Running speaker wires to the back speaker has been challenging. The building code requires FT4 fire rated cable. The runs also get very long. Do you have high-end speaker cable to your Talon Audio Hawk surround speakers? How long are the runs? Was fire rated cable required?
Incidentally, your Talon Audio Hawk surround speakers would be at or near the top my list for my dream system of the universe for main stereo speakers.
dear wendy thanks for share the ideal of harmonix cable biwire with supra cable.that give me a push to upgrade my cable to harmonix.(some one review the harmmonix cable only suggest it will match nice with some speaker need more detail in upper range as kharma.)i have found the solution through your set up.i have a few xrcd24 it not for sale item(a give from Mr ma).i love to loan them to you so you could see how far your system could go.
Very nice system. I noticed the Placette active line stage; I have one too, and it's probably the only component that I own that I *never* think about changing. A great piece of gear.
Hi Wendy, your system gets more and more incredible each time I check on it. Glad to hear you're enjoying the Living Stereo SACDs--haven't heard the second series but the first was great. Best wishes. Jamie
You are one in a million, I really admire you. My wife is always p.. off whenever i buy a piece of hi end stereo, of course for the whole family to enjoy movies etc..she just want a boombox and save money to buy a bigger house to show off to her friends.
Yeah at 4-5 meters writting that check would be quite painfull! But maybe less then coming home to see your pool boy Slappy lounging around your rig in his speedo, & flip flops? Yet if you forgo getting a pool now Wendy as Slappy has spoiled it, you could afford the speaker cables, Right?
Audiobugged, yes I use the Harmonix and Supra in bi-wire configuration. I've tried them in both the upper and lower and find that Supra covering the bass and Harmonix covering the mids and highs works the best and sounds amazing. Although I would love to, I have not tried the Harmonix Super Max Tweeter cable in that I need 15 foot runs and that puts the price out of the ballpark!
Great system. The only thing I can see will transform your wonderful system is TRANSPARENT power conditioning and cables. My system is similiar and I am amazed by the simple yet profound improvment the mm (current models) of TRANSPARENT products have made for me.
Not sure if you have a Pool, but if you need a pool boy let me know, i'll work for free if you let me listen to your system from time to time. LOL
All of the sudden im pretty insecure about my little stereo. ROFL
Seriously though, Nice Rig, it is nice to know that women can be affected by this insane hobby as well. Looks like you hav done yer homework and it paid off! ;) Happy Listening!
Harmonix ICs vs Siltech? What are the differences in sound that you hear in your system? Have you done an A/B comparison between the Compass Lake and the Harmonic Strings Golden Performance?
Wendy, Very interested in what you think of your Stellavox PW-1's. I have been thinking of getting these for about a year, I am using a Bel Canto eVo 2 now (120 watts normal). I have heard that the PW-1's will output 200 watts average, but, on the site, they list it at 200 watts "clipping", can you tell me your views? I am very much interested in how these amps sound, how do they compare to your Goldmund? I have ordered the SACD (Matt Haimovitz), thanks for the recomendation.
My system consists of:
Bel Canto eVo 2 digital amp Green Mountain Audio "Continuum 3" Speakers Audible Illusions Modulus 3A Pre-amp Sony SCD-1 SACD/CD player
Wendy, I forgot to let you know where to purchase the Ulli Bogershausen SACD, it is at Elusive Disc. Also, another "different" SACD, which is at the top of my list (I purchased it about a year ago), is: Blues Company, "Then and Now". This SACD is very popular in Germany, a combination of Blues, Jazz and Rock, you would swear, the group was staight out of the Southern US from there sound. Very dynamic, strong vocals, and great electric guitar/band, but, must be ordered in Germany, easiest is through Amazon.com.de Thanks for the recommendation of "Matt Haimovits" I ordered the SACD this afternoon, I also love recommendations, as, finally, there are more releases than I can keep up with (a good thing :) ) Please tell me what you think of the Bogershausen SACD, as, very few people in the US have even heard of him (again, he is famous in Europe, but, not here).
I love getting the music referrals! That's what this is all about for me, the music! Quadophile, I took your advice on Roxy Music and have to agree that it is outstanding. It really gives my speakers a good work out. Quite amazing! Rick, I will follow up on your recommendation of Bogershausen. Thanks! My favorite SACD to date is Matt Haimovitz, "Please Welcome..." Thanks guys!
Wendy, Very nice system. It is so wonderful when someone can enjoy their hobby as much as yourself. A very much unkown SACD disc out there, that I would like to recommend, is: Ulli Bogershausen "Personal Favorites". This is solo acoustic guitar at it's finest, throughout the standards, and famous songs, you would swear there are 1 or 2 other guitars playing with him. His technique, finesse and speed are captivating and beautiful. This is finger picking at it's best. I have over 400 SACD's, and this still is my favorite. Wendy, keep us up to date with your system, your writting is very interesting.
Nice to know you listen to a variety of music. In case of SACD I would urge you to give a listen to Roxy Music - Avalon on your system if you have not heard it yet, it is one of the best recorded SACD's out there.
