I love your set up. Recently walked into a record store in Burlington VT and the owner was a big fan of Grado carts. I am too. I asked what kind of speakers he liked and he smiled and said Klipsch. Now I'm sorta eager to hear some. Anyways, I love the minimalist gear on floor with wires thing. Thanks!
Older buildings in NY had very good lathe real plaster and solid old wood floors.
The living room of a pre-war Bronx apartment I lived in for ten years was like that and sounded great. The thick plaster walls were also good at isolating the sound. I could never hear my next door neighbor playing her piano and she couldn't hear my hi-fi.
Nice. Older buildings in NY had very good lathe real plaster and solid old wood floors.
I still have good memories of our place in Brooklyn Heights- it was a great sounding room with no real treatment other than judicious placement of components in the room.
Nice work...I'll second the Morrow and AudioArts recommendations; Mike's a great guy and I consider Rob a friend (though I have Mike's SP4's in the main rig, more synergystic). Or twist your own. I just picked up magnet wire for my wife's MiniWatt speaker cables, 2 strands of 21 ga. for the signal and 2 strands 19 ga. for the return, a configuration that should like tubes and low wattage, and is quite a bit cheaper than what's out there...Also, consider Bob Crite's modifications for the Heresy's, a serious upgrade--much less glare, newly pronounced mid's, more cohesive LF. You'll keep them forever...Just a couple of suggestions. Keep up the good listening...
System edited: Somewhat recently switched out my Jolida 102b for an Almarro 205. Am considering rewiring the Jolida to work as a preamp for the Almarro.
@Lapierre Those are great, keeps the light and dust away. I recently ordered a shelf from local shop Gothic Cabinet Craft. Nothing amazing but solid and space efficient.
You have a great approach to enjoying this activity on a budget. Vinyl, especially if you buy gently used, is a great value. I've been pleasantly surprised to find that most of the new music I'm interested in is available on vinyl format. Building up your system slowly with used equipment is smart. As for cable, yeah -they make a difference, but no need to go too esoteric/expensive. Experiment with the low cost direct makers like anti-cables, Morrow, audio art. Then you can put your speakers on stands and records on shelves. Happy listening.
